Maifield doubles at ROAR 1/8 EP Off-road & SCT Nats

The 2016 ROAR 1/8 Electric Buggy/Truggy and 1/10 4×4 Modified Short Course National Championships were held this past weekend at Stateline R/C on the Michigan/Indiana border. In 1/8 E-Buggy TLR’s Ryan Maifield steered his buggy to the overall TQ in the class thanks to three round TQ’s while in 1/8 E-Truggy Ryan had to fend off attacks from TLR team mate Dakotah Phend who took Q2 but overall Ryan would take a second TQ that weekend thanks to also coming out fastest in Q4. In 1/10 4×4 Modified Short Course Ryan cemented his will to make it a triple by again taking the overall TQ and the pole position for the triple A-mains. With bad weather in the forecast for Sunday, ROAR made the decision to run the opening A-mains and some of the lower mains on Saturday which turned out to be a wise choice as indeed rain kicked in on Sunday, washing away any chances for more track time.

In Saturday’s A-mains, Ryan Maifield continued to dominate the field in 1/8 E-Buggy by taking the win in the 10-minute encounter some 3.6 seconds in front of Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin. Tekno RC’s Ryan Lutz completed the top 3 another seconds down.

The 1/8 E-Truggy A-main saw Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated) taking a pretty dominant win coming from the 3 spot on the grid. TLR’s Dakotah Phend and Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst completed the podium result while pole position holder Ryan Maifield had to settle for fourth. Finally in 1/10 4×4 Modified SCT it was again Ryan Maifield that excelled. Taking a dominant win with a 22-seconds margin on runner-up, Tekno RC’s Ryan Lutz, Ryan grabbed his second title of the weekend. TLR’s Dakotah Phend completed the SCT class podium in third.
