Vesa Yli & Karri Salmela take 2016 FinTrack titles

FinTrack, the Finnish Championship series for electric touring cars, has completed its final round and crowned its 2016 champions in the Stock 21.5, Prostock 13.5, and Modified classes. The series consists of four indoor rounds followed by two outdoor rounds with points from a driver’s five best results counting. Unlike the Stock 21.5 and Modified classes, the Prostock 13.5 class only competes at the indoor rounds, with the best three results used to determine the champion.

In the Prostock 13.5 class, attracting a total of 53 drivers, Vesa Yli grabbed the point lead by dominating the first and third rounds, with Markus Afelt scoring three second-place finishes over the same period. Heading into the last round, the championship would be decided between the two of them. Vesa scored a third-place finish just behind Markus, which meant that Vesa was crowned the Prostock 13.5 National Champion thanks to two wins and a third against Markus’s three second-place finishes.

The Modified class, attracting 47 drivers over the season, featured a season-long battle between two drivers – 2015 Champion Karri Salmela and Miko Teponoja. To secure the title, Karri only needed a second-place finish in the final round while Miko had to win the race to grab the title away from Karri. With a second-place finish, Karri was once again crowned the National Champion in the Modified class.
