2016/17 Mibosport Cup Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the 2016/17 Mibosport Cup was held this past weekend at the Hotel-Sport in Hrotovice, Czech Republic and it saw a total of 233 entries for the four on-road and two off-road classes. The Touring Car Modified class was dominated by reigning IFMAR Touring Car World Champion, Ronald Völker (Yokomo) who won the qualifying and took the overall TQ without any problems. Behind him Viktor Wilck (Serpent) and Tobias Seidl (Schumacher) made up the top 3 while, after some very strong runs in the qualifiers, Czech driver Radek Flek came in fourth.

The triple A-mains then saw Ronald continuing to dominate, taking all three legs in style to grab the overall win. Viktor Wilck snatched the runner-up spot while the race was on for the remaining podium spot between Tobias Seidl, David Ehrbar and Radek Flek. Ultimately Tobias would hold the upper hand to take the final podium spot while Radek ended the race on a very respectable fifth spot.

In the LRP Stock class it were Philipp Neudinger and Tom Krägefski who fought for the TQ. In the end, the pole position for the triple A-mains went to Philipp, with Tom finishing in second ahead of young Slovak driver Oliver Havránek. The opening A-main then saw a victory from Philipp who finished ahead of Tom Krägefski and Oliver Havránek. Tom Krägefski then created some drama in the second leg when he attacked Philipp for the lead but made contact and left Philipp dead last. Tom was given a stop and go penalty for that move and after an amazing catch up drive, Philipp finished second behind Oliver Havránek. Even though the third A-main was won by Tom Krägefski ahead of Oliver, the overall victory went to Philipp Neudinger (Awesomatix) as all three drivers finished tie on points with the qualifying position being the tie-breaker. Philipp then took the overall victory with Tom Krägefski (Xray) and Oliver Havránek (Xray) behind.

In the 1/12th scale class it was Tomáš Lipták who laid down some dominant drives to take the overall TQ by a lap. Thomas Dvorszky and Bernd Koller had to settle for second and third. Tomáš then also smashed the competition in the A-mains, leading the way from tone to tone. Thomas Dvorszky took the runner-up spots in all mains to grab the 2 spot on the podium but behind him the race was on for the remaining podium spot. Third place finisher in the opening main, Matěj Šulc and Bernd Koller, fourth placed in A1, swapped positions in the second A-main while in the third A-main, Domen Lipnik ended up third. Thus the decision for the overall third place again went down to the tie-breaker with with Bernd Koller being the lucky one to complete the podium behind Tomáš and Thomas.

The TQ for the 2WD Buggy class was decided by the first qualifying round, when the gap between the winner Martin Bayer and second Lee Martin was just 0.05s. The third place on the grid went to Kája Novotný. From the start of the first A-main to the eleventh lap, the drivers were holding their positions, when Kája made a mistake and that allowed Peter Pinisch to overtake him for third. A little drama was created by Lee Martin who made a mistake in the fourteenth lap but keeping the second position behind Martin Bayer anyway. The second A-main was won by a flawlessly driving Martin Bayer with Lee Martin finishing behind him. Peter Pinisch finished third ahead of Tom Cockerill. As Martin Bayer secured the overall victory, he decided to sit out the final A-main allowing Lee Martin to win ahead of Peter Pinisch and Kája Novotný. So Martin Bayer (Xray) took the overall victory with Lee Martin (Yokomo) and Peter Pinisch (Schumacher) completing the podium.

Like the 2WD class the 4WD Buggy category was dominated by Martin Bayer who won all three qualifiers to take the TQ ahead of Lee Martin and Kája Novotný. Till the thirteenth lap of the first A-main, the positions up front didn’t change. Then, Lee Martin made a mistake and Kája Novotný overtook him for the second position with Aleš Bidovský moving up to third. Ultimately the leg was won by Martin Bayer. The second A-main was won by Martin Bayer as well followed by Lee and Kája. With the day’s win in his pockets, Martin decided to sit out A3 to not disturb the battle for the remaining podium spots. Lee Martin then took the lead in the third A-main but unfortunately had to retire from the race in the seventh lap due to technical issues. This allowed Kája Novotný to win the final with Aleš Bidovský and Tom Cockerill behind, handing Kája Novotný (Xray) the runner-up spot behind Martin (Xray) and in front of Aleš Bidovský (Xray).

The best Junior trophy went to Zsombor Fekete while the Spirit of the Race award went to Alexander Mayer while the Yokomo Star prize was won by Radek Flek. The second round of the Mibosport Cup will be held on the 26th of November, again at the Hotel-Sport in Hrotovice.
