Motor King wins at Muchmore Touring Series Rd5

The recent fifth round of the Muchmore Touring Series was held in Shanghai, China. In the premier Touring Modified class drivers had to fight with low grip conditions thanks to low temperatures with Motor King taking the TQ from John Lu and Nicholas in third. The opening A-main saw the top 3 finishing in starting order while A2 was more interesting as Lori B, coming from the 4 spot on the grid, was able to put some serious pressure on Nicholas. This allowed Motor King and John Lu to pull away until Lori clipped a curb, allowing Nicholas some room to breathe and to focus on chasing the top 2 drivers. Later John would also clip a curb which promoted Nicholas into the second spot. In the final stages Nicholas ran into trouble with a backmarker and he had to make way for John again meaning the top 3 would again finish in starting order. With the overall win already secured by Motor King the race was now on for the runner-up spot.

All drivers took off simultaneously at the sound of the tone and lap one and two went without incidents with the top 6 cars being nose to tail. Heng made a move to pass Lori B on lap 3 and the two cars touched. This allowed Motor King, John Lu and Nicholas to pull away. John Lu constantly attacked Motor King and the two exchanged positions a couple of times. Nicholas was four to fifth car length behind when they started catching back markers. Suddenly John Lu clipped a board whilst leading and Motor King and Nicholas both crashed into him. Nicholas was the first to recover and he waited for John in the confusion. The race quickly resumed with John leading again, Nicholas second and Motor King third. In a great move by Nicholas, he squeezed pass John in the high speed right hander to the cheering of the crowd. John and Motor King tried everything they could in the remaining  minute to regain the lead from Nicholas but young Nicholas held the lead to the finish. John Lu came in second 0.162 seconds behind and Motor King came in third 0.769 further seconds down. With that result, Nicholas snatched the runner-up spot from John Lu and also took overall second in the 2016 Muchmore Touring Car Series, behind Lu Wen Bo. Hiroyuki Onda takes third overall thanks to consistent driving throughout the year.
