Northern California Carpet Series Rd1 – Report

Round one of the 2016/2017 Northern California Carpet Series was held last weekend in Stockton, California at 209 Raceway. Each race of the series is a one day event which consists of four rounds with one throw-out. Round one saw a total of 73 entries that included multiple ROAR national title winners and Reedy Race Champions. The biggest classes were USGT and TC 17.5 with 20 racers in each class with other classes run were WGT-R, Formula, Touring Modified, VTA, and 1/12th scale 17.5. In Touring 17.5 it was Eric Albano from pole that lead the field. EJ Evans pressured Albano early in the race, but Albano held his line and was able to finish off with the victory from Juan Aveytia and EJ Evans.

In Touring Mod it was the other way around as Evans TQ’d but had early pressure from Albano. Evans stayed composed and was able to bring home the win with Gonzalo Cortes in second and Leo Zhao third.

In USGT Juan Aveytia would capitalize from the pole position and cruise to an uncontested victory. Steve Tsuruda would finish second two seconds in front of Jason Ross.

In 1/12th scale 17.5 it was Josh Bister who took the TQ after 3 rounds and Tim Copp would line up second. This order would change up as Tim Copp took the lead after lap 11 and never looked back also setting fast lap.  Rounding out the third spot was Trevor Geter.

WGT-R saw Anton Aaroe bringing home the win from Russ Bright in second and Roy Birchler in third.

Formula had Jaime Manzanilla taking the victory with Anton Aaroe on the runner-up spot. Daniel Ho would complete the top 3 podium result in third. Finally in VTA Jason Ross came out fastest in the A-main from Dalton Griffitts and Ryan George.
