California Touring Series CTS2 – Report

The opening round of CTS2 was hosted by TQ Hobbies in Chino, California. In the Modified Touring division, Xray’s JJ Wang set TQ for Q1 and an even faster run in Q2 giving him pole position for the A-main. Team Associated drivers Rick Hohwart and Randy Caster drove defensively in Q2 to lock up P2 and P3. Defending Champion Team Yokomo driver Eric Albano would then qualify in P4. Special guest appearance from Shanghai, China and Awesomatix driver “Rocket” would qualify P6 just behind EJ Evans in 5th.

From the tone, Wang led the race until tagging the corner on the sweeper on the 2nd lap only to allow Hohwart to get by while Albano, Caster and Rocket exchange positions. With a little bad luck, Albano did not finish as planned as Caster retains 2nd. Wang from last worked his T4 to P3. Hohwart would then take the win as he says “He didn’t expect that to happen”, giving strong 1-2 victory for Team Associated running their prototype aluminum chassis.

In 17.5 Touring, local favorite Duy Kuong set the TQ honors and a tone to tone win from Alex Navarette and Roel.

USGT had again Duy Kuong taking the TQ and win with Lee Passehl and Mike Molina rounding out the podium.

For the up and coming popular class Formula 21.5, it was EJ Evans who powered his car to victory with Panda P2 and Bob Stellflue P3.
