2017 Nitro-West-Masters – Season preview

The 2017 season of the popular German Nitro-West-Masters series is about to start this coming weekend. Round one of the series, that mainly visits tracks in the western part of the country, will take place at the fast track Hamm track, home of last year’s EFRA 40+ European Championships and the German Nationals. Already in its ninth season the Nitro-West-Masters cares about the popular 1/8th and 1/10th nitro on-road classes that got some additional swing with the introduction of the Hobby-Cup Stock engine classes some years ago.

The race format will be left unchanged for the 2017 season with the Saturday being used as a full practice day while Sunday being race day. The NWM is open to all drivers, no license is requested but drivers without national DMC license will have to pay an insurance fee of three Euros. New for 2017 though is the DMC Nitro-West Rookie-Cup, a support class for up and coming drivers up to an age of 18.

As usual in the NWM, last year’s champions are racing with the prestigious number “1” start number. In 1/8 Open Uwe Baldes (Shepherd) will carry number the #1 with Ralf Vahrenkamp (Mugen) the #2 and Philipp Roemer (ARC) the #3. In 1/10 Open the #1 went to Marco Nenner (Shepherd), #2 to Melvin Diekmann (Shepherd) and #3 to Benjamin Lehmann (Shepherd). Champion of the 1/8 Hobby-Cup class became Ingo Braun (Serpent) who got number the #51 as well as Hans-Werner Dietz (Xray) for the 1/10 Hobby-Cup championship.

Entries for all nitro races in Western Germany can be made at myrcm.nitro-west.de, where all the races can also be followed in a live stream.
