Ryan Cavalieri doubles at Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout

The 20th Annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout was held this past weekend at Hot Rod Hobbies and Raceways in Santa Clarita, California. Historically the event attracts the top teams and drivers from around the U.S. with the 2017 edition making no exception. The event was held in the usual mix of Modified and Stock off-road classes and in the premier 2WD Modified Buggy category it was Xray’s Ty Tessmann who took the TQ after the qualifiers and he would also come out on top of the field in the opening A-main but A2 and A3 belonged to Ryan Cavalieri (Team Associated), coming from the 4 spot on the grid, after the wind played havoc on the drivers. With a constant performance Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin, who started from 3rd on the grid, obtained the runner-up spot while TQ holder Ty Tessmann had to settle for 3rd overall. Jared Tebo (Kyosho) in 4th and Dustin Evans (Team Associated) completed the top 5 result.

In the highly contested 4WD class it was again Xray’s Ty Tessmann who took the TQ honours and different from the 2WD mains he was able to maintain his position although he had to go into the third and decisive main as Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated) snatched the win in A2. With 6-1-2 finishes Spencer then took the runner-up spot on the podium while 3rd placed Dustin Evans was tie on points with AE teammate Ryan Cavalieri, but the better tie-breaker handed Evans the final podium spot. Behind Cav, Jared Tebo (Kyosho) scored another top 5 finish.

The 2WD Mod Truck A-mains saw TQ holder Ryan Cavalieri (Team Associated) walking away with the win after coming out on top in A2 and A3. A1 winner, Dustin Evans (Team Associated) ended the day on the 2 spot from Ty Tessmann (Xray) in 3rd. Jared Tebo (Kyosho), 3rd placed after the qualifiers, came in 4th from Tyler Fenster on the 5 spot.

The 2WD Open Short Course class had Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated) taking the title from Chris Jarosz (Kyosho) and Kevin Kimberley (TLR) while David Jenson took the win in 1/8th E-Buggy with Radcliff Brill and Mike Allen coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
