Hupo Hönigl doubles at Austrian EP Buggy Nats Rd4

Round 4 of the Austrian 1/10th Electric Buggy Nationals was held at the track of the ERT Steyregg club. It was the first ever Nationals on a full astro turf track JConcepts Lockness tyres being chosen as the control tyre. The fast layout and super high traction made it difficult to manage error-free runs and in the 2WD qualifying it was a 2-way battle between local driver Philipp Märzinger and Hupo Hönigl. Both had two TQ runs each, but in the end Phillip could take the overall TQ with the fastest overall time. In the finals Phillip was way too nervous and crashed early in the first two mains, which Hupo could win in cruise mode. Phillip finished 2nd by taking A3 and up and coming young star Lucas Grainer would round up the podium with his consistent performance over the whole weekend.

In 4WD qualifying Hupo definitely had the fastest car, but his “poor driving and way too many mistakes” made the qualifying pretty interesting with four different drivers taking a round. Ultimately Peter Pinisch took the overall TQ spot with the fastest time in front of Hupo and Rene Trauner, who also took one round. The first A-main was a super close battle between Peter and Hupo with Peter taking the win by just 4/1000th of a second. In the second main Peter made an early mistake and Hönigl could cruise to the win with a pretty big gap. Peter had to win the last main to take the win, because Hupo’s winning time was a lot faster than his, but Peter again made an early mistake and broke his car, so Hupo took the 4WD win as well.
