Dallas Mathiesen (1948 – 2018)

It is with great sadness that we report the death of a pillar of the RC Community, Dallas Mathiesen. The president of IFMAR and EFRA for so long it seemed for most, especially the younger racers, that he had always just been there and most hoped he always would. We all knew him for his calm under pressure personality, giving out penalties at major races around the word, his mediation skills, his big smile, rock star hair and for his vice-like grip which you experienced if he ever grabbed your shoulder or when he shook your hand. A memorable figure, what a lot of people won’t know is that he spent his life working with troubled kids and those less fortunate in his native Sweden, a job he never seemed to be able to retire from despite his many attempts. He will be sorely missed and our condolences go out to his family.
