The West Coast Buggy Nationals – Report

Last weekend San Diego RC Raceway set out to do something different in 1/10th scale electric RC racing. Racers were invited from around the country to attend the inaugural running of The West Coast Buggy Nationals which was hosted by SDRC Raceway. This event differed from others as there were no motor limits or minimum weights placed on any classes. It was separated simply by driver skill and which sponsors those drivers were representing. Three Divisions were offered at the West Coast Buggy Nationals; Sportsman, a Class for drivers who do not have any sponsors at all. Intermediate, a class for drivers who may be running for a tire or electronics company, and Expert, a class for those drivers representing a chassis sponsor or just wanting to run with the fast guys to see what they had to make it happen. Each Division was required to run both 2WD and 4WD buggy to be eligible to win the overall title for the Division they entered. SDRC also offered a beginner class where newer drivers could run a 2WD or 4WD buggy.

In the Expert division Mason Eppley (Tekno RC) took the win from Team Associated’s Austin J Pannone 2nd and TLR’s Kevin King 3rd.

The Intermediate division was won by Josh Gonzalez with Tyler Hilderbrand and Andy Paul coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Chris Krein came out successful in the Sportsman division as Jeff Caudron and Rick Riley rounded out the top 3.

Finally in the Beginners class it was Austin Riley with the win from Randy Hernandez and Mikey Patron.
