Shanghai’s N8 Club – Race Report

This past weekend, the N8 Nitro Racing Club in Shanghai saw 20 drivers come out to compete. N8 is promoting nitro on road racing in China and getting great support from manufacturers all over the world such as Matrix Tires, VP Fuel and Sunpadow Batteries. With a growing interest for nitro racing in Shanghai, N8 has become the premier Nitro RC racing Club in China. Club qualifying and race format promotes interaction and participation between members. Qualifying is an hour long where drivers decide when to set their 3 consecutive fast laps to determine final heats. 2 car bump ups in each mains give drivers a chance to make the A-Main, all mains are 30 minutes. You don’t need to bring your own pitman because mechanics are assigned thru lottery where different members get to teams up with other members every month. The club meets every 6-8 weeks.

This past club race saw some fast Chinese electric drivers giving nitro a try. Former Chinese national electric champion Motor King and Rocket Zhang showed why they are considered top drivers in China. But at the end, it was N8’s veteran Italian Lorenzo Bali who took TQ as well as the Win with his Picco-powered Mugen Seiki. Runner up was Serpent factory team driver Rocket Zhang and finishing the podium was the local flying Swede Martin Skarin with his OS powered Mugen Seiki. Driver of the Day went to Dr. Zhong Hua Yin who drove 10 hours to join this one day club event. Zhong bumped up into the A-Main and finished 4th.

N8 Club Founder Rick Wang had this to say. “I am pleased to see how we have grown this club. For our sport to grow, we cannot rely on the governing body to be responsible. Those of us who are passionate about this hobby need to step up and put the effort behind our sport. N8 was started to fuel that nitro passion and keeping it relevant, we welcome anyone from anywhere to join us.”
