CTS4 Rd2 – Report

History went down this past weekend at TQ RC Racing Hobbies in Chino, California as a young rising star at 10 years old and a recently sponsored team Xray driver named Jacob Cruz showed a dominating performance by being the first ever Triple Crown Winner to compete in CTS. The youngster won concourse, TQ honors and overall triple main capturing the first two mains while sitting out the third. In the Touring Modified division, Brandon Clements, factory team Xray driver, showed he had the car to beat turning the fastest lap times in practice. Factory team Yokomo driver Randy Caster and Xray driver Jacob Cruz also showed fast lap times but Clements would hold hot lap. In Saturday’s qualifying, Randy secured the top spot for Q1 and Q2 leaving the opportunity open for more improvement as the traction came up. In Q3 the pace was faster than TQ as three racers threatened to beat the time. Early in the run Caster’s BD9 came out leading the qualifier. A minute into it Eric Albano took the lead producing the fastest lap during the run with his Awesomatix mid motor car. But as the race went on Jacob Cruz would then takes his T4’19 to the lead completing a perfect run to secure TQ honors.

In A1 Cruz clips a corner on the second turn after the sweeper and drops all the way back to last as Caster gets by with Clements in 2nd. Team Associated driver Rick Hohwart would apply pressure on runner up as the race went on. Cruz relentless in clawing his way back up front passing the back of the pack showing he deserved to be up front. As the race went on a series of lead changes started to happen as Caster clips the sweeper allowing Clements to take the lead with Hohwart in pursuit as they tangle letting the youngster back up front to take A1. In A2 Jacob remained calm and won tone to tone with a perfect run claiming his first ever career win against some of the best on road racers in the Nation with Brandon Clements in 2nd and Rick Hohwart 3rd overall.

In the 17.5 division Xray driver JD Ramsey sets TQ honors with his T4’19. In A1 Ramsey traction rolls on the second corner allowing Lex Tyler (Xray) to take the lead while crowd went crazy as close racing happened behind him during the first three minutes of the race. Hector Martinez, a fast local racer, manages to get by the pack as he makes up time on Lex Tyler. With a minute to go Martinez closes gap on Tyler as they switched positions to the line as Hector takes A1. In A2 JD leads the entire race with Tyler behind him for 3 minutes. Not giving up any space to pass, the pressure was on Tyler as he fell back allowing team mate Johnee Fenimore to take 2nd as Ramsey takes A2. In A3 Lex finds an opportunity to make a pass on Ramsey entering the straight and takes the lead from there leaving the rest of the field til the finish line. Overall it was JD Ramsey taking TQ and win followed by Lex Tyler in 2nd and Johnee Fenimore in 3rd.

For USGT it was JD Ramsey taking the TQ honors and overall win over Hector Martinez and Jacob Boonyanant.

In Formula Hector Martinez was the guy to beat as his competition gave him the respect he deserves. In qualifying the drivers decided to go heads up for the entire weekend giving them six chances to beat Hector Martinez. Martinez would take TQ honors and overall win in triple mains followed by Alex M in 2nd and Mark Goldwater in 3rd.

In the 1/12th scale division, a recently added class to CTS4 this season giving a variety of other classes to run. Elias Schablowski takes the overall win over Lex Tyler in 2nd Charles Stevens (TQ) in 3rd.

Next race will be at N-Control Raceway in Dale Texas March 15-17.
