Xray Racing Series Greece Rd3 – Report

The third round of the Xray Racing Series Greece was held at its traditional location, the Fanatix Racing Track near Athens. Cold but sunny weather made for decent racing conditions and in the most competitive class of the day, Touring 13.5T Stock, it was  Ioannis Nerantzis who was very fast from the first qualifier when the track was still wet. Ultimately he would take the overall TQ and also the win, however he was hotly contested by George Kalantzakis and Dennis Zogogianis who ended in 2nd and 3rd for an all-Xray top 3.

The Touring Modified class held different winners in all legs and in the end it was Chris Kidis who would hold the upper hand in this very competitive class. Sotiris Diamadis came in 2nd as young Panos Theodoropoulos, former XRS nitro stock champion, came in 3rd in his maiden electric modified race to make it another full Xray podium.

In 1/10 GT and after a long winning drought, George Kazoglou took the win in the pan car class. Chris Katsigiannis came in as close 2nd and Petros Drakopoulos finished in 3rd (all Xray). The 1/12th scale class had Chris Kidis taking the win in front off close friend and Xray teammate Sotiris Diamadis.

Chris Kidis would also lead the way in the Formula class and in front of Nikos Nikolakopoulos. Sotiris Diamadis completed the all-Xray top 3 in front of Vasilopoulos.

In Nitro Stock, Sotiris Diamadis (Xray) finally won at the 3rd round. He was very fast all the time but especially in the first and second leg of the finals. Apostolis Zapantiotis (Capricorn) won the last of the 20-minutes legs after a very tough race with Diamadis and one less pit stop. Bill Ventouris (Capricorn) had a difficult race as Kalantzakis was very close behind him all the time. Kourkoumelis had some minor technical issues after rebuilding his car and Georgantas made an easy race finishing all the finals.

1/8 GT saw Alex Piperoglou (Mugen) taking another win. Akis Lignos (HB Racing) came in 2nd and just 0.6 seconds in front of Chris Tarounas (SWorkz) after the 45 minutes final. Vovos came in 4th after Vasiliadis made a mistake in the last lap.
