Xray Racing Series Australia Rd2 – Report

The Canberra club recently hosted round 2 of the Xray Racing Series Australia. Unfortunately the 2019 edition of the club’s round was to end in the same way as 2018 – with rain. The weather looked great at the start of the day, unfortunately as the progressed showers threatened, finally arriving just as the finals started. With the race meeting cancelled the organisers declared the results on the three rounds of completed qualifying. Before the rain, racing in all classes was close with only a few seconds separating the top three drivers in most classes. Alex Ilievski posted his fastest time in round three to take the overall win in Touring Stock 13.5, Nathan Tanti posted his quickest time in round two allowing him to secure 2nd place from an inconsistent Mark Wallin who finished 3rd.

Ray Zarb posted the quickest times in the second and third rounds of Touring Stock 21.5, granting him the win as Gerard Elias managed to post his fastest time in round three to take the 2nd place overall just 2 seconds behind Ray while Phillip Merrick finished in 3rd place just two seconds behind Gerard.

Attracting the who is who of the local RC scene the pace in the 1/12th Stock class was close and fast. Multiple Australian 13.5 Champion Alex Ilievski dominated by winning all three rounds of qualifying to secure the win, Mark Wallin finished in 2nd place with Dan Maher 3rd.

A small field arrived at the Kamah track to compete in the Formula Tamiya Truck class. Sydney sider Andrew Curless stamped is authority on the class with a win in round one that was fast enough to take TQ. Local TT specialist Daniel Hamers piloted his Truck to 2nd place while Dean Kaufman rounded out the podium in 3rd place.
