Thurston & Mansell win at British 1/8 IC Track opener

The 1/8 Circuit British Open Championship 2020 finally started with a full entry at the famous Halifax circuit in the UK. Limited numbers were allowed in each race and precautions in place to follow Coronavirus guidance and keep racers safe. Both nitro and electric classes were popular with many new drivers trying their hand at 1/8 after lockdown, the British weather played its part with a damp track at times, in qualifying Alex Thurston lead the way in the nitro class from Tim Wood and James Conolly. In the electric class it was a close battle with Jamie Paton, newcomer Mikey Mansell, Rob Scott and Michael Lee with Capricorn driver Mikey taking TQ.

In the final Alex Thurston made it a Capricorn white wash winning the nitro A-final with a superb drive he was in a league of his own, James Conolly’s challenge ended early on and Tim Wood (Shepherd) had a poor start but managed to work his way through to take second from Mark Green (Serpent) and Andy Hastings who had started off well.

In the Electric finals Mikey was dominant to take the win for Capricorn but had to hold off challenges from Jamie and Rob also running Capricorn. Meanwhile Michael Lee drove consistently across the three legs to take the runner up position overall with his Xray. Round 2 takes place at Mendip 16th August.
