Max Gotzl is double 2020 Czech National Champion
The 3rd and 4th round of 2020 1/8 Czech Nationals took a place last weekend at the home track of Max Gotzl in Horni Jeleni. The nice weather forecast promised a good racing weekend, which it was. On the 3rd round on Saturday Gotzl was able to set the overall TQ with Ebuggy straight after Q1 and Q2, Ales Bidovsky lined up 2nd and Mirek Koutek 3rd on the A main grid. With Nitro Martin Bayer took Q1, but Max managed to win Q2 and Q3 to take the overall TQ in Nitro as well. In the finals Xray driver Gotzl was able to win all three A mains in Ebuggy with at least one lap gap over 2nd placed Ales and Martin Milowsky who took the last step on the podium overall.
In Nitro buggy Gotzl managed to set the fastest time in semis to take the pole position for the main final, just few seconds back was Martin who lined up second and Jiri Mara took the third starting spot. Max resisted Martin for the whole first lap, but unfortunately on the second lap his engine stopped, probably because of the rocks on the track. After that incident the young Xray driver had a really big gap over second place and was able to finish the 30 minute main on the first place to take the second overall win! Martin managed to climb his way back to the 2nd place in the end and Jiri Mara finished 3rd.
The 4th round of the series on Sunday again saw Max Gotzl TQ all three qualifiers with Ebuggy to take the pole for triple A main. Ales was again on the second place and Mirek third. As there were less nitro drivers then on Saturday, it was decided not to have Semis and go straight into the main final, so they ran 4 qualifiers. Again Max was able to TQ the first three to secure pole position for the main in front of Martin Bayer in 2nd and Ales Bidovsky in 3rd. The Ebuggy saw the pole man win A1 and A2 to secure the win straight away after some nice fights with Ales, who finished overall 2nd and Martin Milowsky took the 3rd spot again.
On the second lap of the main final in nitro Max made a mistake which put Martin in the lead, and unfortunately Gotzl made some more mistakes of his own, but still was trying to chase Martin as they ran this main for 45 minutes. Unfortunately again Martin had an issue, when in the middle of the race as his throttle servo broke. So Max took over the lead and finished on the first place with huge gap over 2nd Tomas Kapicka and 3rd Ales Bidovsky.
As this was the last two round of the series, they also had the whole season prize-giving ceremony. Max Gotzl became the Czech National Champion 2020 in both classes, for the second time in a row. He managed to get full points in both, Nitro and Ebuggy. In Ebuggy Ales Bidovsky became the vice-champion and Martin Milowsky finished 3rd. In Nitro Jiri Mara is the vice-champion and Martin Bayer finished 3rd overall.
