‘King of Clubs’ documentary released

Park the Bus is excited to launch the highly anticipated documentary feature film, King Of Clubs, on YouTube on Saturday 19th November at 20:00 UTC, which focuses on the world of radio-control car racing and where Lewis Hamilton started at the age of six. Directed and Produced by Greg Cruttwell (The Football Monologues, Chunky Monkey), King Of Clubs follows a group of racers as they compete over the summer months in 2021 across different tracks in the South of England, all aiming to be crowned the champion. Filmed and edited by Peter J Hayes who introduced the director/producer Greg Cruttwell to the secret world of radio-control car racing and the fanaticism surrounding it, Greg discovered that it is a highly technical sport and as complicated as Formula 1. As such, a number of those involved in the sport end up in the pits on F1 teams.

On any given day across the UK, there are thousands of people out racing radio control cars. Ask any RC racer what it feels like, and some will describe the acceleration and speed. The sensation of remotely controlling a 70 mph RC car on the edge of adhesion in a race against friends and rivals. Some will talk about the technology and the challenge of race engineering a car to find the last fraction of a second. But, whether they dream of being Lewis Hamilton or have been racing RC for thirty years or more, they are all in the grip of a common addiction. This world is simultaneously the most accessible, high-tech, and global form of motorsport. And yet, while so many people are yearning for a connection to something real, away from the virtual world, it is a best-kept secret. Most people are entirely unaware of the club around the corner.

Production consultant Andy Hyde of RC Vision and DDRC.TV recently produced a film for Sky Sports F1 on Lewis Hamilton and “radio-controlled” car racing, which aired on October 9th during the Japanese GP: DDRC.TV also recently hosted an RC race on October 24th which quickly generated 23.6million views (TikTok).

Director and Producer, Greg Cruttwell said: “Park the Bus are delighted to be releasing our new documentary, King Of Clubs, which lifts the lid and looks inside the fascinating hidden world of remote-control car racing, a world that launched the career of Lewis Hamilton and others.”

Andy Hyde of RC Vision said: “This documentary film comes out hot on the heels of Sir Lewis Hamilton reminiscing on Sky Sports about RC racing as a child and the doors to the world of racing and engineering being opened up for him. Our country desperately needs a diverse new generation of children and young people to become scientists, engineers and technologists. This documentary offers a much-needed insight into the emotion and the journey of some of the world’s best RC racers.”
