Evans takes most convincing win of opening RROC encounter

Evans takes most convincing win of opening RROC encounter

Former champion Dustin Evans took the most convincing win of the opening round of races at the 20th running of the Reedy Race of Champions in which all three races were won by the TQ starting drivers.  Winner of the world famous race in 2011 on a tie break with current champion Ryan Cavalieri, the Team Losi Racing driver put in a faultless race winning by 5.6 seconds from another former champion Joern Neumann. What was more significant about the Colorado driver’s win was that he did it in the fastest race time something that could again prove vital come Sunday evening.  With a time some 5-seconds slower than that of Evans, Ryan Maifield took Heat 1 over Neil Cragg. Heat 3 went to Marc Rheinard in a three way battle of World Champions, the touring car ace holding off Cody King and Cavalieri who came through from the back twice.

20th Reedy Race underway at OCRC

20th Reedy Race underway at OCRC

The 20th running of the World famous offroad Reedy Race of Champions has gotten underway at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, California with drivers getting their first taste of the track with a round of 2WD and 4WD practice.  Overall the feedback on the track from drivers is a positive one the majority agreeing while not the most technical of layouts it should produce good racing for the heads up racing format which the Reedy Race is all about. 2WD World Champion Jared Tebo however was one driver not so complimentary describing the track as ‘not good at all’ adding it was ‘way too easy’.  In terms of times on the freshly laid track it was Team Losi Racing’s Dustin Evans who set the pace in 2WD with a 20.373 second lap while in 4WD Absolute Hobbyz driver Barry Baker topped the times with a 18.991 lap.

Brand New Year

Brand New Year

It looks like we may be coming towards the end of one of the most active ‘silly seasons’ in RC that I’ve ever seen. Whilst it’s true that our sport does appear to move forward every year in the media elements, with both drivers and manufacturers realising the importance of media exposure and getting their news out to their fans and competitors, I did wonder what exactly it was that may have meant we saw so many news items, press releases and announcements concerning driver contracts for 2014.
