Hobby Haven in Des Moines, Iowa was the host of the 15th annual Shootout race. Practice was scheduled to be most of the day Friday but with the bad weather the area was having the track was not going to be ready. The track crew worked most of the day putting lime on the track to help dry it out. With almost a full day of track work, mother nature did not let up and the organisers were forced to close it down for the day.

Italian company AS Hobby Racing introduce their modified Max Phantom Chief 3.5cc on-road engine. The hand-tuned Max engine, based on the MP9, features a modified cylinder, crankshaft, crankcase, and carburettor in order to maximise the performance and fuel economy. Selected ceramic bearings further improve the power output and reliability.

This past weekend in Chico, CA A-Main Hobbies and The Dirt Racing put on the Labor Day Shootout and the last round of the US Pro Cup. For the US Pro Cup it came down to Ryan Lutz and Josh Wheeler to compete for the title and a $5,000 price. Qualifying started Saturday morning with great weather and the track looking good. In the Truggy class Josh ended up 3rd the first round with Ryan Lutz getting the TQ and Phillip Atondo with 2nd. The second and third round had Wheeler getting the TQ in both rounds which gave him the overall TQ for the Truggy class.

The new Solaris Magic Formula C traction compound for rubber tyres is specially designed for the use on dirty, low grip tracks in low to medium temperatures. When used on a hard compound tyre it is also good for the use in high temperature/high traction conditions. Its special formula prevents excessive tyre degradation while increasing tyre performance and lifetime at the same time. Anti-static ingredients make the tyre more resistant to dirt and debris allowing the tyre to come to life earlier in the race. The tyre sauce is also good for the use on indoor carpet tracks and it only recently proved its performance during the EFRA touring car European Championships when Bruno Coelho took the vice championship using Magic Formula C additive.

The BRCA 2WD and 4WD national off-road F2, Veteran and Junior championships were held this weekend at the large and well prepared track at Boughton Raceway. The Junior and Veteran classes were split into age groups of U13, U16, V40 and V50. Qualifying the 2WD F2 class would be a battle between Jonathon Brown and Andy Jones. Andy Jones took three rounds of qualifying giving him TQ with Jonathon taking the 2nd spot, Nick Oliver taking 3rd and Tristram Neal taking 4th.

Serpent’s newly signed Micha Widmeier has won the 2014 German 1/8th nitro buggy junior title at last weekend’s Munich round of the championship. After coming in 5th a week ago at the first race in Landhut and finishing 18th during the second and final round in Munich last weekend, Micha ended up on a combined 8th place in the overall championship. This result handed him the title as the best junior in the 2014 national championship.

Xray announce the Xray Challenge Hungary for the weekend of the 7th of September. The race will be held at the World-famous Hungaroring track and sees the running of modified and stock 1/10th electric touring car classes as well 1/10th 200mm nitro, 1/8th nitro and 1/5th large scale racing.
