Team Durango R explained

Team Durango R explained

Team Durango have introduced their new regular racing specification ‘R’ range of cars. The ‘R’ specification cars share the same Team Durango DNA, performance and innovation, but with a more ‘regular’ specification making them more affordable and accessible. They will be available for all Team Durango models as a step-in point for Team Durango ownership, but the no-compromise premium versions will typically arrive first for hard-core fans. The first Team Durango ‘R’ car will be the DEX410’R’ which is going through final testing. Available end of April, street prices for the DEX410R will be US$350, €230 and £210 (excluding local sales taxes/VAT)

Tresrey DEX410 option parts

Tresrey DEX410 option parts

Japanese company Tresrey have introduced details of some new products for the Durango DEX410 4wd buggy, including new front and rear shock towers, rear uprights and front hub carrier. The new front and rear shock towers are made from 4mm thick carbon fibre and these more compact towers have a modified shock angle compared to the standard version and now only have two shock mounting positions compared to the standard 3. The new red anodized aluminum rear uprights house a larger diameter axle bearing (5x13x4mm) for better durability and are sold in 0 and 1 degree versions. On the front, the new red anodised aluminium hub carriers also sports the larger diameter axle bearings and similar to the rear uprights, the part is much stronger than the plastic kit version.

Durango release details of DNX408 body shell

Durango release details of DEX408 body shell

Durango are claiming that their DNX408 1/8th scale has the lowest bodyshell around. This has many benefits, like low centre of gravity, minimal frontal area to punch through the air, more air flow over the rear wing etc, but it also helps with heat management. The engine head in a DNX408 gets the most direct clean airflow of any car, plus the body is designed to direct as much air as possible over the bodyshell at the engine head, rather than through the body. The central engine and low bodyshell mean that all shock bodies are also in clean airflow. The rear wing is as close to the rear wheels as possible, thanks to the forward shock position, this drives the down-force directly to the rear wheels. Too many wings on 1/8 buggies are way out back which means more wheelies than down-force.

The face of the Durango DNX408

The face of the Durango DNX408

So, we have seen the parts, the rear and now Durango are showing us the front of the DNX408. By Durango standards the front suspension is pretty standard stuff, solid, light weight, with a clean, no-risk design. The front end features all the necessary adjustments, plus hard anodised suspension holders, hard anodised bulkheads, 5mm hard anodised shock towers, outdrive and CVD boots and the 15mm bore PTFE coated shocks. Team Durango style down-stops keep the front of the chassis nice and narrow for best front ground clearance. When it comes to taking the gearbox and centre drive shaft out it should only take about six screws.

Durango shows of the DNX408’s rear end

Durango shows of the DNX408's rear end

Durango continue to tease us with close up shots of their prototype DNX408 1/8th scale buggy. The car’s rear-end design is all about low weight, keeping weight forward, putting the wing over the rear wheels and giving the most ground clearance. The 408 claims to ‘probably be the lightest car on the market’, which is thanks to many design considerations such as the minimalistic gearbox case, slender but tough bulkheads and the smallest rear overhang of any car.

Hupo Honigl joins Team Durango

Having made their intentions clear early on, Team Durango have announced that Austrian racer Hupo Honigl has joined their team. The multiple European Champion will race the company’s DEX410 this season and with the company releasing the DNX408 soon and showing off their prototype DEX210 2wd chassis recently, it would seem that Hupo has all his off road needs covered at Durango.

More photos of the Team Durango DNX408

Having shown us some CAD images and photos of pre production parts, Team Durango have now released more photos of their pre production prototype DNX408 1/8th scale buggy. Along with the photos they have also released the car’s feature list together with the public buying price, which they expect to be US$699 or 457 Euros or 417 UK pounds, minus sales taxes. Not a bad price considering the spec of the car out-of-the-box, which features alloy suspension holders, alloy bulkheads, 5mm shock towers and a 5mm chassis all of which are hard anodised, plus black/gold alloy CNC machined engine mount and a lightened transmission.

Team Azarashi Fettera shell for DEX410

Team Azarashi Fettera shell for DEX410

New for the Durango DEX410 from Team Azarashi is this new body shell called the Fettera. Still in the prototype phase, this shell is the result of extensive track testing which has resulted in its unique aerodynamic performance. Very stable, the creative design of the new undertray helps with this, while extra space around the electronics and cooling holes help keep their operating temperature low. Expect a March release date.
