Akio Sobue joins LRP factory team

LRP have announced the addition of Japan’s Akio Sobue to their factory team. The former JRMCA Electric Touring Car Champion and multiple IFMAR Worlds A-main finisher already used LRP electronics in parts of his 2016 campaign but he will be now getting the full factory treatment while running LRP’s new FlowX speed controller, Vector X20 motors and Competition Car Line battery packs while also using LRP chargers and accessories. Akio says:

The LRP system offers exceptional performance over the whole RPM range, that’s why I like the products. It also allows me to fully concentrate on the race and my driving, to focus on my strategy and I have never to worry about power or reliability – that’s perfect. I already learned that LRP is a great partner and I hope we can share many victories together.

LRP FlowX competition brushless speed controller

LRP have officially announced their long-awaited new competition brushless speed controller, the FlowX. Follow-up model to the popular Flow, the all-new ESC (that we exclusively featured back in September) sports an all-aluminium case that comes in a new dark-blue anodising. The power wires are now of an all-black colour as are the flat receiver and switch wires all of which makes for a cool factory team appearance. Also new is the flat power capacitor board that makes for easier mounting. Inside the case the ESC houses new high-end FETs exclusively customised for LRP and a redesigned heavy duty power board with both features allowing for up to 220A constant current. Furthermore the controller features the new V4.1 firmware for easy on-board programming and a heavy-duty standard voltage 6V/6A BEC system. Included with the speedo comes an optional fan unit as well as two sets of alloy screws for standard as well as thicker heavy duty fans. The speed controller is set for a release at the beginning of January.

3DRC capacitor holder for LRP speed controllers

Coming from 3DRC and made for LRP speed controllers using round diameter power capacitors is a 3-D-printed capacitor mount. The simple design allows to attach the mount using double sided tape while the capacitor is held in place using a M3x3mm set screw, making for a more secure mounting of the otherwise hard to attach capacitor. The mount is available through 3DRC’s Shapeways store.

LRP FlowX speed controller – Exclusive preview

LRP FlowX speed controller – Exclusive preview

Following Ronald Volker’s World Championship victory in China, LRP revealed to Red RC that Ronald was using the all new FlowX speed controller in his Yokomo as well as giving us the opportunity to photograph the new speedo which is set for release later this year. A driver who has shown great loyalty to the German brand even during some tough product development periods, the new speedo is very much a joint effort between LRP and Volker. Working with electronics engineer Aleš Dobnikar, Volker made a point of thanking LRP for their “hard work” praising them on the “progress they have made” recently. Although they have won many World titles, LRP boss Jürgen Lautenbach, who was in Beijing, said “this one is special”. Technically the new FlowX is the evolution of the highly popular Flow WorksTeam speed controller with whom the prototype, ran by Ronald, shares its case but the full production version will sport an all-new case whose prototype you can see in our images. When it comes to the technical specifications and software features LRP remain very tight-lipped for now, just stating that the new ESC “pushes the boundaries of speed control technology in every aspect”. The new FlowX speedo is due for release later this year when the full technical details will also be made available.
