Volker takes opening qualifier in Hungary

Volker takes opening qualifier in Hungary

Yokomo team driver Ronald Volker has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying here in Budapest where the Top 4 drivers were separated by just 1.7 seconds.  The German ace, who opted to run the prototype LiPo chassis BD5, said he wasn’t the fastest on track but keeping the run clean had given him the valuable maximum points for the round as he topped the time sheets by 2/10ths from Xray’s Teemu Leino.  Leino reported his T3 as having a little push but was OK with second, having also taken a cautious approach to his driving.

Titanium Racing BD5 front spool

Titanium Racing BD5 front spool

You know a car is popular when aftermarket companies release optionals for it and it seems the Yokomo BD5 is getting popular with the second front spool release in 2 days. This new spool kit from Titanium Racing features a solid Aero-grade 7075 T6 hard anodized centre body with high impact delrin cups and 7075 T6 alloy sleeves. The unique locking system is designed and developed by Titanium Racing and does not use pins to attach the cups, reducing potential stress areas thereby improving the impact resistance of the spool cups. Maintenance is also simplified as the cups simply pull off and push on. Weighing in at only 9 grams excluding the pulley, car response is improved as is on and off power steering.

Ronald Voelker confirms move to Yokomo

Ronald Voelker confirms move to Yokomo

Over the weekend the news emerged (thanks to all the people that mailed me) that former European Champion and World Championship runner up Ronald Voelker had joined Yokomo. Having raced for Hot Bodies in previous years and been very successful, the LRP backed driver is looking forward to the season ahead with his new sponsors. We contacted him for a statement on the move.

First of all I would like to thank Hot Bodies and especially Toshihiko Hara for their support over the last 3 years! I’ m really looking forward to racing the new Yokomo BD5 and I am happy to have the opportunity to race in such a world class team with so much success behind them.

Ronald’s first race is this weekend’s Reedy Race and in preperation for that event the German driver took the opportunity to shake down his new ride last weekend at a local race.
