Hagberg wins chaotic Leg 2 in Austria

Hagberg wins chaotic Leg 2 in Austria

Team Xray’s Alexander Hagberg has won what has to have been the most chaotic race in the history of the Euro Touring Series with the level of tension among the main contenders in the pits requiring a chainsaw to cut through it. After a change of weather saw cars sliding around in Leg 1, conditions were back to normal for Leg 2 and initially the race started well with Top Qualifier Marc Rheinard leading the way from Yannic Prumper and Ronald Volker, but on lap 4 the Yokomo pair clashed in what was the first of a number of incidents that have tempers running extremely high in Austria. One of the few happy faces in the pits at the end of the race, Hagberg took the win from fellow Swede Viktor Wilck with Martin Hudy, who started 9th completing the Top 3, with all three drivers admitting afterwards that they had got lucky by staying out of trouble.

Volker masters dramatic condition change to win A-1

Volker masters dramatic condition change to win A-1

Starting from 3rd on the grid in the first A-Main of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria, Ronald Volker best mastered a dramatic change in track conditions to move to the front of the field after a thrilling opening two laps. A change in weather that saw the arrival of light rain caused a sharp rise in humidity at the roof covered Traiskirchen track making the asphalt surface more like the ice skating ring which the building normally houses. Such was the change that laps times where almost 2 seconds off the pace seen in qualifying. Once in front Volker cruised to an easy 3-second win over team-mate Yannic Prümper who held off a challenge from Top Qualifier Marc Rheinard.

Rheinard ‘Top Qualifier’ in Austria

Rheinard ‘Top Qualifier’ in Austria

Marc Rheinard is Top Qualifier at the penultimate round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Traiskirchen, Austria.  The Tamiya driver secured the honour, and the all important bonus championship point that goes with it, by posting the second fastest time in Q4 behind Yokomo’s Yannic Prumper with Xray’s Tim Wahl, who like Prumper was also on fresh tyres, completing the Top 3. The penultimate qualifier would see a troubled run for Ronald Volker and Alexander Hagberg that would see both drivers DNF.

Volker tops Q3 from Fischer

Ronald Volker

Ronald Volker claimed his first TQ run in the third round of qualifying at the ETS in Austria after a close fought battle with Serpent’s Marc Fischer, the latter loosing out by 4/10ths after a number of rough laps including one which saw him make a good save when his S411 got up on two wheels just after passing Yannic Prumper. With the Top 2 on new tyres, Marc Rheinard was the fastest driver on used rubber setting an impressive pace to claim third which should be enough to ensure the Tamiya driver will be Top Qualifier.

Rheinard again in Q2

Rheinard again in Q2

Marc Rheinard backed up his performance in yesterday’s opening qualifier by kicking off Day 2 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria with another TQ, again the Tamiya driver topping the times from HB’s Andy Moore.  However the big talking point among the drivers after Q2 was the pace of Yokomo driver Ronald Volker who despite running used tyres posted the third fastest time, the next fastest driver on tyres that completed a full five minutes in Q1 being Team Xray’s Alexander Hagberg who was 7th fastest.

Rheinard TQs opening qualifier at ETS Austria

Rheinard TQs opening qualifier at ETS Austria

Marc Rheinard TQ’d Round 1 of qualifying at the Austrian round of the Euro Touring Series, the Tamiya driver setting the opening pace ahead of fellow former World Champion Andy Moore’s HB with last year’s Traiskirchen winner Yannic Prumper completing the top three. Having set the pace in practice earlier in the day, Prumper’s Yokomo team-mate Ronald Volker looked to be on target to end Day 1 of the event perfectly as he sat top of the timing screens until his BD7 suffered a roll on lap 15 which cost him 5-seconds.  Eventually the defending champion, who set the fastest lap of Q1, would end up 6th, a result he will be hoping is one of his throw out rounds.

Advantage Volker in Austrian practice

Advantage Volker in Austrian practice

Ronald Volker laid down his intentions for this weekend’s penultimate round of the Euro Touring Series, the German ace setting the fastest time over 3 consecutive laps to top practice in Austria by a healthy margin over Serpent’s Marc Fischer and title rival Marc Rheinard while Xray’s Alexander Hagberg made it four different manufacturers in the Top 4.  Last year’s Traiskirchen winner Yannic Prumper, who is one of the four drivers still in contention for the title, would set the fifth fastest time but for Round 3 winner Viktor Wilck it was not a good start to this crucial weekend as he was only 11th fastest meaning he will run his five qualifiers in the second fastest heat group.

Peter Jovanovic doubles at Canberra State Titles

Peter Jovanovic doubles at Canbarra State Titles

The recent KM Racing sponsored Canberra State Titles for 1/8th and 1/10th nitro on-road saw Capricorn driver Peter Jovanovic taking TQ in both classes followed by Steven Jovanovic and Michael Stone in 1/10th scale and Kane Alderton and Tim Westwood in 1/8th. The small and technical track was very aggressive on the tyres but the sedans made their final without a tyre change and it was TQ setter Peter Jovanovic who came in first some two laps ahead of Steven Jovanovic and Nick Morris. Chris Hamilton rounded out the top 4 positions. The 1/8th class tyre changes were unavoidable and by only changing the left front tyre Peter again was unstoppable bringing home the win two laps in front of Kane Alderton and Michael Turner. The top four was completed by Tim Westwood.
