Essex Winter Series Rd3 – Report

The third round of the Essex Winter Series championship took place this weekend. As the last major event of 2016, everyone wanted to end on a high, but also take the opportunity to stand out as a championship contender. In the Modified Class, Elliott Harper was heading the standings with two perfect scores from the two rounds so far. The first round of qualifying showed that his run of success was possibly about to end, after an incredibly close round saw Elliott only just snatching the fastest time on the final lap, pipping young Harley Eldridge to the top spot by three-hundredths of a second. Kyle Branson took third in the round ahead of Chris Grainger, but the top eight were covered by less than four seconds.

Kaja Novotny successful at XRS Poland Rd2

The second round of the XRS Poland was held this past weekend in Lodz. In the opening 2WD and 4WD qualifiers, Xray’s Kaja Novotny would lead the way but two messed-up rounds meant that the decision for the overall TQs would be shifted to Sunday as Bartek Zambrzycky was hot on the heels of Kaja. On Sunday morning a leaking shock absorber of one of the competitors left the usually high grip carpet greasy as soap meaning the remaining qualifiers would be held in very difficult conditions. Especially the 2WD buggies were sliding a lot but some last-minute setup changes on Kaja’s buggy allowed him to snatch the overall TQ and also in the 4WD class the young man would excel on the unusually slippery track.

Viktor Wilck wins at Swedish Cup Rd3

Round three of the Swedish Cup was held this past weekend with about 60 drivers making their entry. The track was laid out using the popular ETS carpet with the layout being very technical and pretty narrow at places. Viktor Wilck would come into groove quickly and he took the overall TQ in the Touring Modified class from Marcus van Elling and Fabian Vernersson in second and third respectively. In the final Viktor made a clean sweep to take the overall win while behind him, Marcus and Fabian battled it out for the runner-up spot. Fabian would get second in the opening final and he was on the 2 spot in the second final until he had a crash with back markers on the last laps. Rivkin cruises to A1 win at JConcepts Finals (2WD)

Top Qualifier Spencer Rivkin cruised to an unchallenged win in the opening A-Main of 2WD Mod Buggy at the JConcepts INS in North Carolina, heading an Associated 1-2 ahead of his team-manager Brent Thielke.  The World Champion got a huge break when a first lap pile-up behind him left second place qualifier Jared Tebo eight at the end of the opening lap.  While Tebo would work his way back to the front, Thielke made his B6 wide with the pairing connecting numerous times but he would hold on for second with Tebo right on his rear wing with Rivkin’s winning margin 6.5 seconds.

Tebo takes easy A1 win (4WD)

Jared Tebo took an easy win in the opening 4WD A-Main at the JConcepts Indoor National Series Finals at Speed RC.  The Kyosho driver was left to take a Sunday drive after just four laps when his main rival Spencer Rivkin had a moment which dropped the No.2 starter back to third behind Associated team-mate Damion Borkowicz. Borkowicz would later have a moment of his own allowing Rivkin back through to second while all the time Tebo was pulling off into the distance.  Winning by over 8-seconds on the 16-second lap, Tebo headed a Top 6 that finished up as they started.
