VBC Invitational Sweden – Report

VBC Invitational Sweden – Report

The 2015 VBC Invitational race was held at the Hobbyexpo in Stockholm, Sweden this past weekend. The track was tight and very technical, so mistakes would cost a lot and the race was held in a Reedy-style format, meaning no qualifiers but all finals for the 30 racers from Finland, Sweden and Norway. Handout slick tyres and a mandatory tyre sauce made for equal conditions for everyone and the race started out on Saturday with five rounds of 4WD racing of which four counted towards the overall result. At the end Karri Salmela from Finland, Oskar Levin from Sweden and Daniel Kobbevik from Norway all scored a maximum of 40 points.

Aaron Stringer takes New Zealand Buggy title

Christchurch recently played host for the recent New Zealand Buggy and Truggy National Championships. On Wednesday the track was very wet but the rain did manage to abate overnight and allowed some controlled practice until mid afternoon on Thursday when the skies opened up again and practice was done for the day. Friday there was to be four rounds of qualifying with the best two to count. It was clear from practice their were some fast local guys and a handful of fast Aussies had made the trip over. Friday dawned bright and sunny but very cold. The track was changing at an amazing rate making tire selection critical. After 3 rounds on Friday Aaron Stringer had two TQs for each class which gave him the overall TQ for both classes.

Andrea Pirani TQs and wins at Fiesta Matrix

Andrea Pirani TQs and wins at Fiesta Matrix

ENS podium finisher and Worlds finalist Andrea Pirani completed a clean sweep at the Fiesta Matrix race held last weekend in Valencia, Spain. Hosted by the AUTET club and with the event planned on three days, worrying weather forecasts for Sunday forced the organisers to compress the whole racing action into Saturday. Andrea took the TQ in every round to start first on the grid, followed by Serpent driver Nacho Lopez and the two locals of Signes Rubio and Revert. “Mr. Matrix” himself, Cristian Boni would start fifth on the grid, going on to take the lead in the 45 minutes final thanks to a mistake by Pirani, an then would stay in the first place until the 24 minute mark, when a bad tyre stop would send him back in fourth position. Pirani’s comeback wouldn’t find any resistance, and Andrea was able to put his WRC back on the top after the tyre stops, and went on to win the race with a two laps lead on the ARC debutant Cristiano Sartor and Cristian Boni, who would round up an all-Italian Podium.

2015/15 Rug Racers series Rd1 – Report

2015/15 Rug Racers series Rd1 – Report

On a very foggy morning Wodson Park welcomed back all racers for Rug Racers round 1 at the home of HRCC. After the recent success of Rug Racers Reloaded more changes were seen this time around that made for an even better experience and one that the organisers want to continue to build on. With a record number of people booking in and some of the best drivers in all classes on display this promises to be a very fun and exciting series. Open Modiied Q1 was a war of attrition with only two cars of the first heat finishing the run, the rest were swept up in carrier bags and handed back to their bemused owners. Once the ponies had been tamed Richard Barton pumped in 26 laps to lead the time sheets. Heat 10 Open Modified, Richard Thorpe and Aaron Rose shared two each with 3rd being contested closely. In heat 11 of Open Modified, Kyle Branson took the opening round from Elliott Harper, with Andy taking R2, Elliott R3 and Andy blasting into 28 Laps for R4.
