XRAY Column – Developing and Designing the NT1 Part II

XRAY Column

Following on from last months column by Juraj Hudy, comes the second part of this great insight into the development of Xrays new gas touring car, the NT1. In this part Juraj talks us through the pre production and testing phase of the car as well as highlighting the problems and the solutions to some problems that arose in testing.

With the new geometry on the suspension arms, the geometry of the steering blocks and rear uprights had to be modified too, which again required modifications to the moulds. With the changed geometry the roll center positions on the rear roll center bridge also had to be modified so after testing several different roll center positions we came up with the optimal positions.

Serpent WOS steering block Pro set

Serpent WOS steering block Pro set

Serpent today released these WOS steering blocks set for the Serpent 960 that contains 2 steering blocks, bearing eccenters, ceramic bearings, spacers and nylon pivot ball nuts. Featuring a different offset to the standard kit versions, the blocks can be used in 2 different configurations by swapping the side of the car they are mounted on. These changes, depending on the side the steering blocks are used on, will either give you more turn in on corner entry, or more on power steering at corner exit. The included eccenters ensure that the axle is raised higher than centre line, which enhances the effect caused by this new configuration.
