Gay & Kling win at Halloween Shootout

Gay & Kling win at Halloween Shootout

Debbie’s RC World hosted the Halloween Shootout, drawing many racers from Regions 2 and 3 to kick off their indoor offroad race season for the Winter months. Three rounds of qualifying were run, with double A mains for 2WD Modified, and single A mains for the remaining classes. The clay track featured a very technical, yet raceable layout that favoured consistency. With the layout being relatively new, the grip conditions kept all local and traveling racers on their toes throughout Friday’s practice session, and by Saturday morning the bite began to quickly rise as the racing groove started to form. With lap times that were averaging in the 13-second range, one mistake could potentially be a big drop in the standings. Having a car that could balance both consistency and speed around the tight track would prove to be a big advantage.

Andy DiBrino & CJ Ferrell win at Pumpkin Classic

Andy DiBrino & JC Ferell win at Pumpkin Classic

The 1st Annual Pumpkin Classic was held at Top Gear Raceway in Clackamas, Oregon. This one day event would bring in over 70 entries, including some of the fastest drivers from the North-West. Two 5 minute qualifiers were ran followed by double 5-minute A-Mains to decide the champion in each class. The highly contested 2WD Modified Buggy Class would show great racing all day. Kyosho/Team Orion Factory Driver Andy DiBrino would prove he was the man to beat by laying down the fastest single qualifier by over 3 seconds. DiBrino would then carry that momentum into the A-Main events and convincingly finish with a 1-1 to take the overall Win with his Team Orion powered Kyosho RB6 in mid-motor configuration. Up and coming young talent Tanner Day would turn some heads by qualifying 3rd overall in this very fast field, then finishing with a 2-2 to take 2nd overall with his mid-motor. Kyosho America/Team Orion USA Team Manager Joe Pillars put in a solid performance by qualifying 4th overall and finishing with a 3-3 to take the final spot on the podium with his Team Orion powered Kyosho RB6 in Mid-Motor.

FEMCA EP Off-Road Champs – Report

FEMCA EP Off-Road Champs – Report

Following this year’s FEMCA 1/8th Off-Road Championships held in China back in August the Far East Model Car Association held the 2013 1/10th EP Off-Road Champs in Taichung City, Taiwan last weekend. Located on the top of a mountain a lot of effort went into the track that was only built the week before the race. Kudos to the organisers who created a fun and challenging track whose surface had been treated with the famous honey and sugar mixture that was first used in Pattaya, Thailand and than at the FEMCA 1/8th event in Beijing. The treatment made for high traction and tyre wear; as Hara San said: Maximum. The FEMCA race this time attracted racers from all over Asia, including Japan, Korea, Thailand, China and Australia and with host country Taiwan had the most drivers attending, showing that 1/10th Buggy is a rapidly growing class.

Pain and Munday win 2013 West Australian Titles

Pain and Munday win 2013 West Australian Titles

Josh Pain (Yokomo) has taken out the 2WD and 4WD Open buggy classes at the Brikmakers Western Australian State Championships in Perth after a challenging weekend of racing with wildly variable weather. Ray Munday (Associated) flew over from Melbourne for the weekend and finished a close 2nd in 2WD and 4WD as well as taking TQ and 1st in 2WD Short Course. Jarrod Smith took a promising double win in 2WD and 4WD stock. The West Coast club had prepared a very fast, flowing and challenging track for all competitors and the sugared surface had high traction throughout practice. Unseasonal rain on Saturday (2WD day) completely washed away the groove and the surface became very low traction and then very muddy. The 2WD portion had to be deferred until after 4WD on the Sunday, making for a very long day finishing under lights after 8pm. The sun came out again and 4WD qualifying started out very loose but by the finals a groove was forming and provided great racing. AKA Re-Bars were used as the control tyre in buggy and Pro-Line Suburbs in SCT.
