2008 1/8th scale Euros Cancelled

Roeselare Belgium

We have received some more bad news concerning RC racing, following the immediate halt to EP racing in Norway, and that is that the 2008 European 1/8th scale ‘A’ Championships and preceeding 1/8th scale EFRA GP, to have been held in Roeselare, Belgium have been cancelled. We received the letter from Franky Noens, 1/10th scale section chairman in EFRA and secretary of the Belgian association, saying that due to problems with noise and no immediate solution the events have been cancelled. What hasn’t been said is if they will be held somewhere else or just left off the calendar next year, we would presume that they will find another venue. Roeselare played host to this years European 1/10th scale ‘B’ Championships.

Northwest Indoor Champ Series Rd1

North West Indoor Championship Series Race 1

Xray have a report on their site from the first round of the Northwest Indoor Championship Series that was held at the Seattle Indoor Raceway, which saw just under 100 racers in attendance. With a groove formed after practice and the Friday night club race, Saturday’s qualifying was very quick and saw Darren Shank place first in both TC Mod Foam and 1/12th 19T, while the TQ in the other classes went to Frank Mirabelli in TC stock foam, Marcos Garcia in rubber stock class, Randy Sides the 19T Foam class and Brian Bodine the 19T TC Rubber class. The races ended the very same with all the TC top qualifiers taking their pace into the final and winning it, giving Xray top honours across the board, while in 1/12th 19T, it was Sean Maybell that took the win.

Norwegian Federation halts all EP Racing

Norwegian Federation halts all EP Racing

The Norwegian Federation has taken the rather drastic measure of calling a halt to all races and training for electric powered classes following 3 charging related ‘explosions’ at a 1/10th scale National last weekend. According to the source on oOple.com, a lot of the failures have occured in the past with the IB4200 cell, however the most recent failures that prompted this ban on racing were LRP VTecs and Team Orion 4200, both IB made cells. All racing will stay suspended until January 2008, although I’m not sure what will be different from then until now, perhaps a list of approved cells?

UPDATE: We have received an official press release from the NMF which you can download here (PDF).

Sala Federico wins Italian Indoor Champs

Sala Federico wins Italian Indoor Champs

The 2007 Italian electric touring car indoor championships were held in Firenze on the last weekend of October and all the top Italian EP racers were out to battle for the title. In qualifying it was Corally racer Sala Federico that claimed the pole position in front of 2nd placed Michele Romagnoli, racing for Xray, in 2nd. After 2 of the 3 finals, it was a win a piece for Federico and Romagnoli with another Xray driver Guido Barbera in 3rd on both occasions. In the 3rd and decisive final there was many lead changes and with 25 seconds to go, the order was Barbera, Romagnoli and Federico but a misplaced marshall caused a crash for Barbera while a closely following Romagnoli had little place to go and also crashed leaving Federico through to take the win and with it the overall title, Romagnoli was 2nd and Barbera ended his day in 3rd.
