Norwegian Federation halts all EP Racing

Norwegian Federation halts all EP Racing

The Norwegian Federation has taken the rather drastic measure of calling a halt to all races and training for electric powered classes following 3 charging related ‘explosions’ at a 1/10th scale National last weekend. According to the source on oOple.com, a lot of the failures have occured in the past with the IB4200 cell, however the most recent failures that prompted this ban on racing were LRP VTecs and Team Orion 4200, both IB made cells. All racing will stay suspended until January 2008, although I’m not sure what will be different from then until now, perhaps a list of approved cells?

UPDATE: We have received an official press release from the NMF which you can download here (PDF).

Sala Federico wins Italian Indoor Champs

The 2007 Italian electric touring car indoor championships were held in Firenze on the last weekend of October and all the top Italian EP racers were out to battle for the title. In qualifying it was Corally racer Sala Federico that claimed the pole position in front of 2nd placed Michele Romagnoli, racing for Xray, in 2nd. After 2 of the 3 finals, it was a win a piece for Federico and Romagnoli with another Xray driver Guido Barbera in 3rd on both occasions. In the 3rd and decisive final there was many lead changes and with 25 seconds to go, the order was Barbera, Romagnoli and Federico but a misplaced marshall caused a crash for Barbera while a closely following Romagnoli had little place to go and also crashed leaving Federico through to take the win and with it the overall title, Romagnoli was 2nd and Barbera ended his day in 3rd.

Nicolas Guillot wins 1/8th Coupe de France

Nicolas Guillot wins 1/8th Coupe de France

Last weekend saw the Coupe de France for 1/8th scale run at the MRTE circuit near the town of Evry, close to Paris. Qualification saw recently crowned French National Champion Nicolas Guillot take the pole position for Mugen from Kyosho racer Stéphane Riccobono, with Adrien Siegfried in 3rd also for Kyosho. As with the Nationals, there are no direct qualifiers and all racers must take part in the Semi Finals to determine the final starting order and it was Stéphane Bouche that was quickest lining up first for the main final in front of Adrien Siegfried. In the main final it was a good start for Bouche and Siegfried who immediately took the lead however it was Bouche that was to have a coming together with another racer, knocking him out of the lead and down to 3rd behind Siegfried who took over the lead and Guillot who moved up into 2nd. Close to the end of the racer Siegfried also had some troubles which caused him to slow and allowed Guillot through into the lead and to take the win and Bouche up into 2nd, while Siegfried eventually finished 3rd.

1/8 Off-road Texas State Championship

 1/8 Off-road Texas State Championship

Xray are reporting on the recent 1/8 Off-road Texas State Championship race held at the Toys for Big Boys track in San Antonio. The event was open for both 1/8th scale buggy and truggy and going into the event it was Jason Branham that headed the series points in Expert 1/8 buggy and Jimmy Matsler in Expert Arena truck. Qualifying saw no surprises at the top with Branham and Matsler heading their respective classes going into the finals. The Expert Arena Truck main final saw no mercy from TQ Jimmy Matsler who had a couple of bobbles early but quickly regained form and took control to win the Final, and Texas State Championship title, while Xray team mates Joe Mireless and Wayne Mann finished in 2nd and 3rd. The Expert 1/8th buggy final saw a close battle early on between Xray driver Branham and Caster Racing’s Mike Battaile as well as area local Dave Mangelsdorf driving a Losi 8ight, the former having problems and dropping down the order. Eventually Branham could get his head down and pull out a small gap to take the win, and the State title, in front of Mangelsdorf in 2nd and Hunter Kinsey in 3rd.
