Teemu Leino wins 2008 TITC

Teemu Leino wins 2008 TITC

Seen as the warm up race for the World Championship held on the same track in November, this years running of the TITC in Thailand was very well attended by factory teams from around the World. Run on a tight smooth circuit under warm conditions, qualifying saw Xray racer Teemu Leino set down the fastest runs to take the top qualifier spot with 3 round wins in front of former World Champion Atsushi Hara in 2nd and current European Champion Ronald Volker in 3rd, both racing the Hot Bodies Cyclone. The finals were easy for Teemu, who could win the first 2 to claim the overall win with 1 final left to be run. With Teemu sitting out the 3rd run, this allowed Andy Moore to take the leg 3 win, which combined with his 2nd spot from leg 1 gave him 2nd overall in front of Ronald Volker in 3rd.

Cavalieri sweeps the Dirt Nitro Challenge

Cavalieri sweeps the Dirt Nitro Challenge

Team Orion racer Ryan Cavalieri has dominated the 9th running of the Dirt Nitro Challenge in Arizona winning both the buggy and truggy classes, but in qualifying it was Team Losi racer Adam Drake, using the new GRP motor that TQ’d in both classes. In the truggy final it was Ryan Lutz that took the early lead and looked like he would take the win, but a rear differential problem saw him drop out and this leaving James on his roof which meant he had to settle for 3rd. The buggy class final saw and early lead for the Drake who was followed by O’Donnell racer Jared Tebo, with Mike Truhe and Ryan Cavalieri catching. Two thirds of the way into the race Truhe had managed to gain a lead of 6 seconds from Cavalieri who was closing and with 1 minute to go he made the pass and was able take the win, by just over 1 tenth of a second in front of Truhe with Adam Drake taking 3rd.

Chris Kerswell wins 1/12th British GP

Chris Kerswell wins 1/12th British GP

Last weekend saw the 19 turn British 1/12th scale GP run in Hereford, where the organisers created a challenging layout that was very unforgiving and punished small errors very heavily. Qualifying saw the TQ spot go to Russ Williams but he suffered worse luck in the 3 leg finals, crashing out of the third leg while leading. In the first leg of the A-final the win went to Corally racer Chris Kerswell ahead of Matt White with Mark Stiles in 3rd. The 2nd final saw a battle between HB team mates Mick Farrell and Mark Stiles until pressure saw Mick make a mistake eventually ending in 3rd behind winner Stiles and Keith Robertson in 2nd. This meant the winner would be decided in leg 3 and following the demise of Russ Williams, Chris Kerswell could take the lead and eventually the win, giving him the overall win ahead of Mark Stiles in 2nd.

Olly Jefferies wins Carpet Wars Series

Olly Jefferies wins Carpet Wars Series

The 5th round of the Carpet Wars series was held last weekend with title leader Olly Jefferies only needing a 3rd in this round to confirm his second title in recent weeks, having clinched the Rug Racers modified title 2 weeks ago. In qualifying it was Andy Childs that put in a good run in the final round of qualifying to pip Jefferies to the pole position, while lining up 3rd was Kevin Brunsden. In the final Olly had a bad start and was knocked back to last after a collision with pole man Andy Childs, he was able to bring his HB Cyclone home in sixth place but as other results went his way, this was enough to give him the modified title. Kevin Brunsden took the final win from Glen Doman and this result leaves Kevin with a good shot of taking second in the series at the final round.

2008 Winternats – Wednesday qualifying

2008 Winternats - Wednesday qualifying

Wednesday’s running at the 2008 Winter Nationals in Florida turned out to be a wash out with the rain coming down all morning, eventually stopping around 12 am. With the track starting to dry, around 2pm Jim Rice went on track to dry it with his super drying machine (see picture below) and then sprayed sugar water on the track. Racers were given free practice until 4pm or so and then the organisers continued with the programme, starting with round 2 of the Masters class. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe that not all of the 1/8th scale heats from round 2 have been completed and the organisers are hoping to finish this round as well as get 3 more rounds in on Thursday, with the club given permission to run under flood lights. The 1/10th 200mm class managed to complete their 2nd round and it was Paolo Morganti that has moved to the top of the pack with a quick 2nd round run to move ahead of Paul LeMieux who drops to 2nd, while DJ Apolaro (above) now sits in 3rd. 2008 Winternats – Tuesday qualifying

2008 Winternats - Tuesday qualifying

Tuesday’s first day of qualifying at this years Florida Winternats is over and for the days second run, the rain gods decided to pay a visit to the track and this caused the round to be scrapped. Before the rain arrived, the racing was hot on the track with Mike Swauger setting the pace in 1/8th scale with his JP powered Mugen just in front of newly signed Motonica racer Josh Cyrul in 2nd, while 3rd spot overnight belonged to Aaron Buran. In the 1/10th 200mm class it was Xray NT1 driver Paul LeMieux that was setting the pace, finishing only 1 second up on last years winner Paolo Morganti in 2nd, who had Serpent team mate DJ Apolaro just behind him in 3rd, while rounding out the top 4 was Kyosho driver Chris Tosolini. Wednesday will see a lot of changes up the front as the conditions improve and all the top drivers manage to get a chance to put in a good run, we will keep you updated. Thanks to The Border for sending us the information.
