Hoppe & Kröger win at German 1/8th IC Track Nats

This past weekend the German 1/8th IC Track Nationals were held at the Minidrom Ettlingen track in the South of the country. The crowd saw an exciting Class 1 final as it was a close battle for the victory between Lars Hoppe and Oliver Mack from the beginning of the race. Due to different fuel and tyre strategies the lead swapped numerous time during the final. Lars opted to change only the outside tyres at the third pitstop while Oliver changed all four tyres about mid-race. Before the final round of pitstops Oliver took over the lead with fresher tyres but Lars stayed behind closely. Lars entered the pits for his last stop first and a super fast pitstop of Thilo Tödtmann put some pressure on team Mack. A few laps later Oliver had his last pitstop and he returned to the track just behind Lars. For the final laps the distance was only a few meters but Lars put his head down and crossed the finishing line in first position to take his maiden German Championship title with Oliver Mack coming in 2nd and Merlin Depta rounding out the podium. In the Class 2 it was young David Kröger with a great drive in the final after winning the semi-final with a gap of four laps over the rest of the field. A small mistake in the first lap of the main final dropped him to the last position but for the rest of the race he showed a flawless performance. A few minutes before the end of the race David took over the lead and never looked back to take the German Championship title Class 2 as well as the Junior Champion title.

Orlowski holds off Coelho to win A1

Michal Orlowski has won the first A-Main of 4WD at the EOS opening round at the Nurburgring.  The Schumacher driver came under intense pressure from Xray’s Bruno Coelho, who momentarily took the lead at the end of the straight before coming off worst when the two buggies touched.  Giving Orlowski a huge break, the reigning champion would make a mistake half way through the race, which now 2nd placed Joern Neumann emulated, allowing Coelho a second go at his rival.  Having just put in the fastest lap of the race, 3/10ths better than that of Orlowski, he would make a mistake at the centre table, allowing Top Qualifier Orlowski to take the win.  Behind, Daniel Kobbevik completed the Top 3 just ahead of the recovering Neumann.

Orlowski Top Qualifier at the Nurburgring

Michal Orlowski is the 4WD Top Qualifier for the opening round of the Euro Offroad Series at the Nurburgring.  The Schumacher driver claimed only his second ever 4WD TQ when he topped qualifying for the third time in Germany this morning despite it been a rough 5-minutes by the Pole.  With a fastest lap that was 3/10th faster than his closest rival, the reigning champion lost 6-seconds with two significant errors but still had enough in hand to top the times from fellow teenagers Daniel Kobbevik and Joona Haatanen.  Behind them Martin Bayer would enjoy his best run so far collecting a P4 for his efforts but for team-mate Bruno Coelho the promising P2 he produced in Q2 last night came to little as he retired after losing a wheel, the same issue hampering him also in Q1.  Running in the second fastest heat Kája Novotný posted the fifth fastest time with the Sworkz of Micha Widmaier completing the Top 6 ahead of Lee Martin.

Orlowski pips Kobbevik in Q1

Michal Orlowski has taken the opening round of 4WD qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series at the Nurburgring, the Schumacher driver just managing to pip Daniel Kobbevik over the final two laps by 0.020 of a seconds.  Having topped practice, Orlowski wouldn’t have the best of starts to Q1 suffering a mistake on the second lap due to the steering lock being wrong on his radio but it was his finish to the qualifier that clinched him the TQ.  Fifth fastest in practice, Kobbevik had an improved car and looked on target for the TQ but losing more than half a second to Orlowski with a slow penultimate lap he was a 1/10th too slow on his final lap to stay at the top of the timing screen at the finish.  Behind, another of the EOS’ young guns completed the Top 3 as fresh from his first EOS career win in 2WD earlier in the day Joona Haatanen surprised even himself with the 3rd fastest time. Joern Neumann was best of championship veterans with a P4 ahead of Lee Martin and Martin Bayer.
