Barron doubles at Apex Off-Road Points Series

John Barron made a poor tyre choice in the second qualifier of 17.5 2WD buggy and was less than 1 thousandths of a second from TQ after having to dodge lap traffic on the last lap. Going into the third qualifier John had everything on point and put in the run of the day. Ultimately he ended up putting in the run of the day, setting the fastest time across all classes and putting in the second fastest lap to Kemp Anderson’s 13.5 4WD buggy. Having secured TQ in both 17.5 2WD Buggy and 13.5 Stadium Truck John only needed to finish second to take the overall win for the points series in both classes. In the end John was able to put a run in with both classes and secure the overall win.

JConcepts Spring Super Cup Rd4 – Report

The fourth and final round of the 2018 JConcepts Spring Super Cup was held at Newred Hobbies in Ocala, Florida, that wrapped up the spring edition of the long-running Florida race series. With championship points on the line, the final round always becomes the most crucial race as overall results are decided by taking points from the best three of the four series races. Newred is a unique track that consists of Florida clay/dirt mix and sealed for low dust and high traction. The jumps are man-made consisting of wood construction and then carpeted over to provide grip and consistency. With the tire choice being a slick or semi-slick tire, the speed and intensity are off the charts. The finale layout was challenging requiring a degree of high technical skills and a car that could handle high-speed corners without traction rolling. All in all, the layout was fun and provided an awesome arena for the drivers to battle it out for the Spring Super Cup Championship titles.

Winter Jumps series finale – Report

The sixth and final round of the Finnish Winter Jumps off-road series was held at Helsinki’s Hupicon fair last weekend. The concrete track was laid out with carpet-clad jumps and the event kicked off on Saturday, starting with the 2WD Buggy class. Some of the fastest drivers were missing due to the EOS held in Germany and the track was really slippery in the morning because there was some kind of dust layer on the concrete but as the qualifying rounds started, the track had developed more traction. Markku Honkanen showed some strong driving in the qualifying rounds and took the pole position for the finals with Jamiel Gabrielsson in 2nd and Lauri Ruotsalainen coming in 3rd.
