2018 DOG race China – Report

The 2018 DOG race was held at the Feiteng outdoor track in Guangzhou, China with local drivers as well as guest from Hong Kong in attendance. Drizzle on Sunday morning meant the start of the race was delayed by about an hour but once things got underway it was Alfred Lao Min Hao who lead the way in the Touring Modified class from young Ma Hao Ran in 2nd. The opening A-main was clearly won by Alfred who in turn had some difficulties with backmarkers in A2 that was won by Ma Hao Ran. So the final main would decide the overall result and in the end it was Alfred Lao Min Hao with the win from Ma Hao Ran and Chan Chau Man in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Xray Racing Series Australia Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Xray Racing Series Australia was held recently in perfect weather conditions. Overnight rain on Saturday washed away the sugar added to the surface and so round one for everyone was slippery but the track grip did come back up 95 percent by the end of the day. In Modified Touring it was Xray’s Ari Bakla with the win from Yokomo’s Simon Nicholson and Awesomatix driver Jeffrey MacKie.

BRCA LMP National Rd5 – Report

The fifth round of the BRCA LMP national series take place at the Newbury RC club last weekend. The event took place over two days, with Saturday seeing all drivers competing in the 13.5 Stock class, and Sunday seeing the field split into 6.5 Modified and 13.5 Sports Modified. The club last held a national two years ago, but the huge experience of the organising team saw a small but challenging track laid out for the attending drivers. The Newbury club run on ETS style carpet, and with the mix of touring car additive and large numbers of cars running, the track soon picked up grip and many drivers were adjusting setup to counter grip roll.

Jade Lim wins at GP Challenge Cup

The KLIRCC International track in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia played host to the GP Challenge Cup recently. The event was held in several on-road classes and attracted local racers as well as guests from Singapore. In the 1/8th Nitro category it was Xray’s Jade Lim with the win in the main final from Shepherd’s Austin Wong and Xray driver Dixon Chen.

Rebels Race Rd2 – Report

Round 2 of the Rebels Race series was held in Trebešín, Prague, Czech Republic last weekend. This time the organisers prepared a very fast track layout with many fast chicanes and as the track was laid out with ETS carpet the grip level was progressively raising up. In the Modified class it was Matěj Šulc, who won all qualifying rounds to take the pole position spot in front of Marcel Dostál and Petr Grof. Ultimately it was Matěj with the win in first two A-mains from Marcel and Petr. The final A-main would decide the overall podium results and in the end it was Marcel who would hold the upper hand over Petr, that latter was able to close on Marcel but did nit found a way past.

Juan Carlos Canas wins at Andalusian Champs Rd1

The opening round of the Andalusian Championship was held at the Circuito RC José María García track in Lebrija this past weekend. Juan Carlos Canas was in control of things, taking the TQ after the qualifiers from Zacarias Villalba and also bringing home the win in the 45-minute main final. Agustin Illanes would better his qualifying performance, ending the race on the 2 spot, from runner-up after the qualifiers, Zacarias Villalba in 3rd, making it an all-Mugen top 3.

Pillars TQs & wins at Winter Rockstar Off-Road Series Rd4

PDX RC Underground in Portland, Oregon held round four of the 2018 Winter Rockstar Off-road Series this past weekend. Yokomo’s Joe Pillars was in control of things in the 2WD Modified class as he took the TQ after the qualifiers and also the win in the single 5-minute A-main. The Yokomo podium sweep was completed by Tanner Day in 2nd and Brad Borneill in 3rd.

Lee Setser & AJ Marasco take King of Stock titles

The inaugural running of the King of Stock Off-road Championship hosted by NewRed Hobbies took place last weekend. NewRed Hobbies is an indoor track located in north-central Florida with a very unique surface that is hard packed clay that is glued. With this race being 13.5T and 17.5T stock only, total entry count was a little smaller at 78 across the six classes; 2WD Indy buggy, 2WD SCT, 2WD Expert, 4WD Expert, Stadium Truck, and RTR Sportsman. Three rounds of qualifying were run on Saturday. Team Associated driver Lee Setser put in a dominating performance in the 4WD expert class with a perfect score for the overall TQ. The 2WD Expert class was very competitive in qualifying with Team Associated driver AJ Marasco and former World Champion Billy Easton (Serpent) trading TQ runs throughout qualifying, but Billy secured the overall TQ in the 3rd round. After qualifying ended, they had a 10-minute/no turn-marshal “Dash for Cash” for the Expert 2WD A-main drivers. There was an amazing 3-way battle between AJ Marasco, Lee Setser, and Billy Easton, but in the end, it was JConcepts Lee Setser taking the win and cash prize.
