Lutz is top seed going into Nitro qualifying in Xiamen

Ryan Lutz is the Nitro buggy top seed for Qualifying at the 2018 SIGP as he put in a blistering time to go nearly 2 seconds faster over 3 consecutive laps than 2nd placed Yusuke Sugiura. The US driver putting his time down to tweaks made to the car’s setup to make it harder, having felt that the setup he copied from Jonathan Yeung for Rd2 was too soft. Behind Sugiura in 2nd was fellow Japanese Kyosho driver Wataru Takashiro who finally found his rhythm to demote Hu Weiping who will rely on his CP1 time to seed 4th with Chen Guanxian, Jonathan Yeung and Kaja Novotny all improving in the 3rd round to complete the top 6.

Tödtmann takes International FEMCA On-road title

Last week saw the FEMCA Asia On-road Championship taking place at Tom Racing Circuit in Hong Kong. The race was saw an exciting qualification in which two rounds had been won by Germany’s Thilo Tödtmann with Meen Meen taking the final three. After the qualification the super-pole took place and Thilo was able to lay down the fastest lap taking the second direct place in the main final. For the grand final Thilo opted not to change tyres while Meen started on small tyres planning to do a tyre change. At the beginning of the race Meen slowly pulled away from Thilo while Chau Man Chan blocked his position against Nicholas Lee and Felix Law further down the order. When his car’s tyres finally came in, Thilo was able to set the fastest lap of the race and the gap to Meen didn’t increase anymore, staying at about eight to ten seconds. Everybody was waiting for the showdown of Meen and Thilo battling it out in the second part of the race. Unfortunately a collision with a mechanic on the track ended Meen’s chances. With his main competitor having had to retire Thilo switched to cruise mode for the remaining 25 minutes and took the 2018 International FEMCA titel in front of Felix Law and Chau Man Chan.

Morganti doubles at Florida Nitro Series Rd3

Round 3 of the Florida Nitro Series was hosted by Homestead RC Raceway. The 1/10th 200mm Sedan class was the one with more participants, since the drivers are using any chance they have to practice and setup their cars for the upcoming Worlds in October. Capricorn’s DJ Apolaro took the TQ from Paolo Morganti 2nd and Lazaro Alonso 3rd, making it an all-Capricorn top 3. The final was super close and exciting. At the beginning it looked like DJ had the advantage with a pit stop less and with a couple of mistakes from Paolo. But then disaster struck. The second gear on DJ’s failed and he had to race the last part of the race only in first gear. The race was super exciting to watch and was decided actually in the last minute. But was not a walk in the park for Paolo, since he was running out of tyres and had a massive understeer, making the car super slow on the right turns. When all was set and done Paolo was able to cross the finish line in first, just 0.2 tenth of a second front of DJ. Eduardo Cabal (Serpent) came in 3rd, a lap down on DJ as Lazaro finished in 4th from Rafael Angulo 5th.
