Elias takes South American Nitro On-road Champs

Brazilian frontrunner Flavio Elias has taken the 2015 South American 1/8th Nitro On-road Championship title in Americana. Already in practise he showed a good performance and clocked fast lap times but in the first two of the five qualifying rounds Flavio had to retire early but with the fastest times in the remaining three rounds he secured himself the pole position and direct qualifying spot for the 45 minute main final. In the early stages of the final Flavio had some difficult laps and he dropped back to 8th position but once he found his groove he was able to climb up the order step by step. In Lap 63 Flavio took over the lead from Sebastian Recio and increased the gap constantly. After 45 minutes he crossed the finishing line in 1st place, some 3 laps in front of Sebastian Recio in 2nd place. The podium was completed by Kazuo Ohara in 3rd position.

Schäfer & Thalheimer win at Central German Champs

Schäfer & Thalheimer win at Central German Champs

Round 3 of the Central German Nitro On-road Championships took place in Kirchhain with a total of 44 drivers in attendance despite the weather forecast being not very good. Luckily the main finals could be raced under dry conditions but the race time was shortened to 20 minutes as more rain was predicted. At the start of the 1/8th scale class 1 finale the track was still wet at some places so everybody was driving carefully. Patrick Schäfer had to start from 6th position as he had a technical problem in the single dry qualifier. Lap by lap he moved up the order and after the first round of pit stops he took over the lead from Peter Poldvere. Without looking back he controlled the race from the front crossing the finishing line 2 laps in front of Peter with Alex Schmitt completing the podium another lap down.

Ty Tessmann doubles at ROAR Nitro Offroad Nationals

Ty Tessmann doubles at ROAR Nitro Offroad Nationals

The 2015 ROAR Nitro Offroad Nationals were held this past weekend at the Silver Dollar RC Raceway in Chico, CA. The qualifying was pretty much dominated by HB’s Ty Tessmann, the reigning ROAR Nitro Buggy champion, who made a clean sweep in Nitro Truggy qualifying by winning all four qualifying rounds while in the Nitro Buggy class 2014 Nitro Truggy champ Dakotah Phend denied him the same domination as the TLR driver grabbed the final qualifier. The 60 minute Buggy final then saw an early battle of Ty and Dakotah with Phend taking the the lead at one point following a mistake of Tessmann but the latter shot back into the lead to re-establish the order. Later in the race Dakotah would have to retire with a problem on his buggy which promoted Ryan Cavalieri the 2nd spot. Around mid-race it looked like Cavalieri would be able to control the gap of a couple of seconds to Tessmann only until Ty was able to further open the gap as much that he was in the position to lap Ryan in the closing stages of the final. A late error of Tessmann meant a bit of relief for Cavalieri but Ty would ultimately lap Ryan after the latter also made a mistake. So at the end Ty Tessmann (HB/O.S.) would be adding another ROAR National title to his belt. Ryan Cavalieri (Team Associated/Mx) and Jared Tebo (Kyosho/Mx) would round out the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Marco Vanni clinches a surprise win in Leno

Marco Vanni clinches a surprise win

Veteran racer Marco Vanni is living his second youth in this 2015 season, as he earned another great result in the second round of the 8th scale Italian Nationals held on the beautiful Miniautodromo di Leno after finishing second in the season opener in Bologna. An eventful race, the start of the final would see the TQ Tironi, Balestri and Picco form a train of three cars chasing each other for the first 15 minutes, until Balestri managed to get his Capricorn C802 in front of Francesco’s Velox and started stretching his lead. With all the leading drivers on the same strategy changing tires only once, a very fast pit-stop by Picco’s pit crew put round 1 winner in the lead, with Balestri right on his tail and Tironi a couple corners behind. At the 37 minutes mark the race would lose its first contender, when a broken gearbox stopped Balestri. Only two minutes after, an engine failure would force Picco into retirement, this putting Tironi back in the front with a comfortable 5 laps lead on Codazzi, Vanni and Salemi. Francesco started driving safe around the track to save tires, fuel and to stay away from trouble but this didn’t help, and with 7 minutes left in the race his engines quit at the end of the straight meaning retirement for him. The lead is inherited by Vanni, who is able to see off Codazzi’s final push to take a surprise win.
