Völker wins big as ETS heads into season #14

The ETS started into season 14 last weekend at Arena33 in Andernach, Germany where last season ended in September 2020. The free practice day (Thursday) started with a wet track at Arena33 but after the asphalt dried out, the weather stayed in good conditions during the whole weekend. The Matrix Modified class saw a dominant Ronald Völker winning all four rounds of qualifying ahead of Antoine Brunet who had a flawless weekend showing excellent driving and pace. Behind them, Lucas Urbain and Marc Rheinard lined up third and fourth with Christopher Krapp also in the mix starting from the fifth position.

IFMAR announces World Championship cancellations

Having had to cancel the entire 2020 season due to the outbreak of COVID, racers had hoped that 2021 would allow everyone to get back on track and crown some more World Champions. Unfortunately that is not going to happen as IFMAR announced that the majority of the World Championships planned for this year have been again canceled due to continued travel restrictions and safety concerns again related to COVID. The 1/8th offroad Worlds to be held in Brazil, as well as the 1/10th Nitro onroad Worlds to be held in Australia are both to be cancelled for a 2nd time while the ISTC Worlds, formerly to be held in the Netherlands before being taken over by the Gubbio track in Italy have been postponed to after summer before a final decision is to be made in May. IFMAR have not said whether the Brazil and Australia races will get a 3rd opportunity to host the event or if they will now move onto the next hosts in rotation, time will tell.

Ryan Maifield triple at 22nd Dirt Nitro Challenge

Ryan Maifield has completed the triple Crown at this year’s Dirt Nitro Challenge, the Mugen/JConcepts driver taking a clean sweep of all the Pro classes. Held at Thunder Alley in California, the 22nd running of the World Famous event, saw little to no foreign entries for the first time in years as Covid prevented teams traveling from abroad. In the Pro Buggy class it was TLR/JConcepts driver Dakotah Phend that would take the pole position ahead of HB Racing’s Cole Ogden. In the final, having starting from 4th, Maifield would use his vast experience as a previous multiple winner of this event, to come through and win ahead of Ogden in 2nd with Mugen driver Tanner Denney completing the podium in 3rd. Pro E Buggy again saw Phend on the pole position, but again was unable to convert his front starting spot into the win as Maifield took the overall win ahead of his JConcepts’ team mate Phend in 2nd, with the Team Associated of Spencer Rivkin bringing it home in 3rd. In the Pro Truggy it was more of the same as Phend would again capture the overall TQ but be passed by Maifield in the 45 minute final for the win, Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst would work his way up from the 11th place starting position to capture the final podium spot.
