Baldo fastest, Batlle top seed

Baldo fastest, Batlle top seed

Bryan Baldo has ended Day 2 of the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Sacile, Italy, as the fastest driver around the Ongaroring but it is fellow countryman & Mugen team-mate Robert Batlle who is the top seed as the event moves into qualifying tomorrow. Baldo put in an impressive 3-consecutive-laps in the second of the day’s two timed practice rounds with a time of 1:53.059, bettering Batlle’s TP1 topping time by over a second. Behind Baldo, Italian Alex Zanchettin posted the second fastest time of day practice with a 1:53.507 in TP2. However using EFRA’s tie-break, points awarded each round, the TLR driver is ranked 4th behind Kyosho’s Riccardo Berton.  An improved TP2 would see defending champion David Ronnefalk post the 6th fastest time which was good enough to seed the HB/HPI Racing driver 10th.

Tobias Kerler joins ARC

Tobias Kerler joins ARC

ARC have announced the signing of Germany’s Tobias Kerler to their nitro on-road team. The former Serpent driver will use the company’s R8.0 car in his upcoming campaign that will see appearances at the ENS, the Euro A in Germany and the German Championship. This is what Tobias has to say about the deal:

First of all I want to say thanks to ARC for the possibility to drive the new ARC R8.0. After a long time in Serpent, which I want to thank also, I wanted to meet new challenges. I heard about the outstanding car and the decision was easy. During construction of the R8.0 I saw that the power train is very smooth and due to the very good quality the building structure was quite simple. In the first test I reached already the times like with my Serpent. In my first race, the 2. LCT run in Rötz, I could undercut my time to 1/10[th of a second]. Now I’m looking forward to work together with the whole ARC team and present the car at the next races [as are the] ENS, Euro A Ettlingen and DM 1/8 Türkheim.

Ronnefalk tops opening day at Euros

Ronnefalk tops opening day at Euros

David Ronnefalk has opened his title defence in the best possible way as he topped the times on the very hot & humid opening day of the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Sacile, Italy. Chasing a third consecutive European title, the 2015 HB/HPI Racing signing recorded a fastest lap time of 38.138 around the Ongaroring track in the days fourth and final round of practice. A day that saw the track improve over the day but still a bit off the traction levels experienced at the Warm-up Race back in May, it was 2012 World Champion Robert Batlle who would end up second fastest just 0.021 slower. Behind them Italian National Champion Alex Zanchettin would complete the Top 3 just ahead of the last European Champion before Ronnefalk Darren Bloomfield. With most drivers using Day 1 of the 35th running of the championships to bed themselves in and wait for the track to come in, Warm-up Race winner Elliott Boots would post the seventh fastest time sandwiched between former champions Yannick Aigoin and Renaud Savoya.

Alexander Hagberg takes Euros warm-up win

Alexander Hagberg takes Euros warm-up win

The warm-up race for the 2015 EFRA 1/10th 200mm Nitro On-road European Championships was held at the EFMOD track in Izmir, Turkey at an impressive facility with a brand new track. The track is very long, with a laptime of around 25 second and it features quite unforgiving curbs but the asphalt is perfectly flat and provided very good grip with the traction levels coming up pretty high as the track was sugared during practice on Friday, and traction rolling became an issue for many competitors. Due to the EFRA points system Alexander Hagberg (Xray), who posted the fastest run, only qualified in 2nd and thus he had to go through the super pole race for the 2nd to 5th fastest qualifiers with the fastest granted another direct qualifying spot without the need to go through the semifinals. At the end Alex managed to post the fastest lap, narrowly in front of Mustafa Alp, who showed great pace throughout the entire race. In the main final Alexander ran a trouble free race to secure the win in front of Shepherd racer Dirk Wichnewski by about half a lap. Mustafa Alp (Xray) came in 3rd to round out the podium.
