Track issues surface in Gran Canaria

Round 3 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series got underway officially today in Gran Canaria but recent work to the track has challenged drivers as they struggle for traction on the highly abrasive new surface.  Originally drivers where to run open practice for the first half of the day before conducting two control practice rounds that would determine the seeding for the day’s opening round of qualifying. However when drivers started to run tyres from the freshly produced batch of handout tyres provided by Ride there was a noticeable difference between the tyres they had used for previous practice runs, some drivers having already conducted a number of days testing earlier in the week.  Due to this Race Director Scotty Ernst adapted the time table allowing drivers to continue with open practice before closing the first official day with one round of controlled practice.

New surface awaits ETS in Gran Canaria

This weekend (28 Feb-2 March) the Yokomo Euro Touring Series heads to Gran Canaria where a freshly resurfaced track awaits competitors travelling to the Spanish holiday island for the third round of the championship. The third year for the ETS to visit the Circuito Automodelismo El Hornillo track, the event marks the welcomed switch from a winter of indoor carpet racing to outdoor asphalt and previous encounters have turned up unexpected race winners. Last year the event saw Tamiya’s Viktor Wilck take his first ETS win in 19-races while on the first visit to the island Kyosho’s Christopher Krapp took his maiden victory, both drivers ending the dominant start by Yokomo’s Ronald Volker to the past two seasons.

Reedy, Tamiya America, and Scotty Ernst Productions are proud to announce that after a five-year absence, the Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions will return to the Tamiya America circuit May 22-25, 2014. Entries open February 24th at noon PST exclusively on www.RCSignup.com. Due to time constraints and to maintain the world-class nature of the event, Open class entries are limited to 13.5 Blinky (ROAR ESC and motor list) and Modified with total entries capped at 160 (100 13.5, 60 Modified). Each driver is limited to one entry. To allow everyone an opportunity to be a part of the 2014 Reedy Touring Car Race of Champions, a lottery drawing for the Open classes will be conducted on March 17th, with the first 100 13.5 and 60 Modified entries drawn securing a place in the event.

International Romanian Nitro Cup – Announcement

The Hobby Arena track have announced a change of date for the 2014 International Romanian Nitro Cup. After a first successful running of the on-road nitro meeting the second annual race will has been moved to the weekend of the 29th to 31st of August, again at the amazing Frumusani track near Bucharest. The IRNC will be run in 1/8th and 1/10th 200mmm on-road classes with the podium places await cash prices. More information can be found here.

International Carpet Challenge – Report

The inaugural International Carpet Challenge took place this weekend in Essex, UK. Hosted by Oli Meggitt and the well-known Essex Winter Series team at their popular indoor venue, the event was supported by HPI, Tonisport and Muchmore and attracted drivers from around the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany and Poland. Kyle Branson was immediately setting the pace in the Modified class, setting the fastest three-lap time during practice, and backing that up by topping the opening qualifying round by 1.5 seconds with his Capricorn. Olly Jefferies, making his international event debut for Xray, took second in the round ahead of the Team Durango pairing of Polish driver Michal Orlowski and Elliott Harper. In round two, Kyle was again quickest, but the field was catching up and Awesomatix’ Freddy Sudhoff set the second best time, seven tenths of a second behind Kyle. Elliott was third ahead of Michal and Yannic Prumper’s Yokomo.

Tessmann does ‘The Dirt’ double

Ty Tessmann has completed the double at the 15th Annual Dirt Nitro Challenge, the HB driver backing up the Truggy win he took last night with a second victory tonight in the blue ribbon 1:8 Nitro Buggy class at the world famous event. Making history by becoming the first driver to win three consecutive Truggy titles, Tessmann also becomes the first driver to do the double twice, the Canadian having won both feature races when the Fear Farm hosted Joey ‘The Dirt’ Christensen’s signature event for the first time in 2012. The podium in Phoenix was completed by Top Qualifier Dakotah Phend, the TLR driver having to recover from a first lap error and France’s Renaud Savoya who becomes the first European to make the podium at the event.

Völker & Ingwethvongsa win at TITC 2014

The 2014 Thailand International Touring Car Championship took place last weekend at the Huge RC Project track in Bangkok. In the Modified Touring Cat class Yokomo’s Naoto Matsukura and Ronald Völker where in a close battle for TQ while their Thai teammates Meen V. and Singpute where hot on their heels. Also in the mix was Xray’s Alexander Hagberg. At the end of the five qualifying rounds Naoto took a very close TQ from Ronald while Chavit and Meen ended tie on points in third and fourth. The Open Brushless class had Thainland’s Araya Ingwethvongsa taking the TQ from Mongkolpan Lomrose and Hong Kong based Stick King. Trin Tanongsakchaikul and Andreas Myrberg completed the top 5 result.

Tessmann makes it 3 in a row at DNC

HB’s Ty Tessmann gave his rivals a master class in Truggy driving at the 15th Annual Dirt Nitro Challenge as he claimed the title for the third year in succession at the Fear Farm, becoming the first driver to ever to do so at Joey ‘The Dirt’ Christensen signature event.  Top Qualifier for the 45-minute race, the Canadian ace dominated proceedings leading from start to finish however an extremely impressive drive by Mugen’s Barry Pettit meant the US National Champion couldn’t let up until the last round of fuel stops.  In the end Tessmann would win by 11.580-seconds over Pettit with Dakotah Phend completing the podium after coming out on top of an intense battle with former champion Jared Tebo.
