Boots fastest in Q2

Having thrown away any chance of a TQ at the first corner in the opening round of qualifying Team Kyosho’s Elliot Boots bounced back in style in Q2 to set a new fastest time by 2 seconds over Durango’s Joern Neumann with Kyosho’s other hot shot teenager David Ronnefalk, who also messed up his Q1 run, setting the third fastest time a further 8/10ths adrift. Just as the second round of qualifying came to an end it started to rain at the Fehring track but it would appear that it was just a passing shower although the skies remain very overcast.

Aigoin tops final Euros practice

Practice for the 32nd running of the 1:8 Offroad European Championships has concluded with Jerome Aigoin topping the final controlled practice at the Fehring track in Austria.  Last year’s Top Qualifier took his Novarossi powered MP9 to the only 9 lap run of the day making it a very strong start to the championship for Kyosho who topped yesterday’s free practice with David Ronnefalk and this morning’s damp practice round with Elliot Boots, who on combined points from today’s two controlled practices is top seed for tomorrow’s qualifying.

Ronnefalk sets early pace in Austria

Kyosho’s David Ronnefalk is the early pace setter at the 1:8 Offroad European Championship as the Swede’s combined three fastest laps of the Fehring track put him top of the time sheets at the end of the first day of action in Austria.  The reigning European Junior Champion headed a Kyosho 1-2 as Jérôme Aigoin set the second fastest time just ahead of TLR’s Darren Bloomfield.

Dusty start to 1:8 Offroad Euros

There was a very dusty start to 32nd running of the 1:8 Offroad European Championships as drivers took to the Fehring track in Austria today for the first of two free practice runs that make up the opening day’s action for the 5 day event.  Forced to abandon the Main final at the Warm-up event back in April due to rain, conditions this time round are extremely dry with a constant cloud of dust hanging over the track.  Having also hosted the 1:10 Electric Offroad European Championships just over 3-weeks ago, drivers who competed at those championship said brushes where left at each marshaling post so as the track could be cleaned after each run and this worked well and they are cant see why the same process could not be used this week.  Instead the plan for now is to water the track at the end of each night but having been watered last night by the local fire brigade the hot conditions will most likely see any benefit quickly evaporate.

2012 Canadian Off-Road Championships

The weather was perfect for the second annual Canadian Off-Road Champions hosted by Dynamic Hobbies and Sutton Aviation. Drivers from around the world came to the Canadian Capitol for one of the best races of the year for electric off-road. They boasted almost 300 entries with drivers like Lee Martin, the current European Champion, Tom Cockerill from UK, Scott Brown from the US and Michael Schoettler also from the US. Team Associated Scott Brown and Michael Scheottler set the early pace in the practice heats in all five classes they entered, 2WD Modified, Truck Modified, 4WD Modified, 2WD Short Course, and 4WD Short Course. With the tent covering the track it made the conditions extremely consistent. After qualifying Schoettler took the top spot in Truck Modified and 2nd behind Lee Martin in 2WD along with a 3rd in 4WD. Scott Brown found himself on top in both Short Course classes.

Robert Pietsch is 2012 European Champion

This week saw EFRA’s annual 1/8th onroad European Championship held in Vila Real, Portugal. Approximately 80 drivers made the trip to the huge track in Vila Real. Built about 10 years ago by the local Government near the local Football stadium this is quite a unique place. The track is long, very fast and very demanding on tires. The average driver has probably spent 22-25 pairs of tires even before the final day. The weather in Vila Real was nice and not too hot with temperatures between 22 and 25 degrees with a nice breeze from time to time.
