Seet & Lee wins 2012 Singapore Open

This year’s Singapore Open had great attendance with 120 racers equally divided among the 1/10th and 1/8th GP categories.  This is the first time in several years that registration was full weeks in advance and a waiting list was needed. The big news this year was the level of competition, with top drivers attending the race from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia.  Even bigger news, was the very fast lap times set consistently by Meen Vejrak of Thailand and Nicholas ‘IceMan’ Lee of Singapore.  Nicholas Lee, a Singaporean, crossed over from EP to GP this year after a World Championship title in EP last year. Nicholas Lee TQ’d and won the 1/8 class with a RB powered Serpent 966TE.  He got 2nd place and set the second fastest lap time in the 1/10 class with his RB powered KM-HK1.

Viktor Wilck wins 2012 touring car RROC

The 2012 Reedy Touring car race of champions was held last weekend at Norcal Hobbies in Union City, California. This year’s race attracted a large number of international racers from Europe with a lot of the pro drivers taking the opportunity to test at the track in the week ahead of the event. As per usual the event is heads up racing with the 6 best results from 8 counting towards the final points. On Saturday, which would see 4 of the invitational races run, it was new Yokomo driver Hayato Matsuzaki who would dominate proceedings taking 4 wins from 4 to lead overnight ahead of Jilles Groskamp driving his Tamiya. On Sunday however Hayato’s challenge fell apart with some poor results leaving him in 4th overall. Day 2 belonged to Tamiya racer Viktor Wilck who started the day with a second to add to his tally of 2 wins the day before. It kept getting better with Viktor taking 3 more wins which would give him the same points as Ronald Volker, but the title would be decided on number of wins with Viktor taking it with 5 wins to give the Swedish driver his first major title since the DHI Cup in 2008. Ronald Volker would take 2nd place with Jilles Groskamp in 3rd.
