Hébert tops opening practice in Austria

Hébert tops opening practice in Austria

Factory Team Associated driver Keven Hébert has got his Euro Touring Series debut off to an impressive start with his TC6 setting the fastest lap around the indoor asphalt track here in St.Polten, Austria. The first Canadian to take part in an ETS event, Hébert managed an 16.285 second lap on a track which he described as being a lot bigger than he was used to racing on in US racing scene. Pleased with his lap time, the 22-year-old said he needed to be more consistent but feels a second run should help him settle in better to the unfamiliar settings in particular the height of the drivers rostrum which by American standards towers above the track.

Jilles Groskamp takes Mod TC title at Snowbirds

Jilles Groskamp takes Mod TC title at Snowbirds

Tamiya/Orion factory driver Jilles Groskamp took TQ and the Win in the TC Modified at the 17th annual Snowbirds Nationals held in Orlando Florida. In qualifying it was Paul Lemieux who set early TQ but was bettered by Jilles in the very last round on Saturday. His new 417 equipped with the latest Orion Vortex modified motor was fast the whole weekend and with some latest set-up changes he was unstoppable in the last round taking TQ by 1 sec over Lemieux. In the final Jilles was chased by Lemieux and Cyrul hard but they never really got the chance to get close. All three ran a flawless race and it was Groskamp who took the win over Paul and Josh. For Jilles this was the second time in a row taking the highly competitive TC Mod rubber title.

Current IFMAR World Champion Cody King has announced that he has signed contracts with all the sponsors that took him to the title in 2010. “Last night was the final piece of the puzzle, so now it’s official! I have a three year deal with Kyosho, and a two year extension with Orion, so I know I will be running the Inferno with Orion power again in 2012 when we go to the Worlds in Brazil. I want to thank all my sponsors, Kyosho, Orion, AKA, KO Propo, Byron Fuels, A Main Hobbies, Lunsford, Stickit1 Racing, Brain Speed Graphix, Dialed Inc., and Cig2O.” Cody did make one change having switched to BC1 Graphics/Stickit1 Racing from UpgradeRC. “I want to thank UpgradeRC for several years of support and basically revolutionizing the way people do skins and stickers. This switch to Stickit1 is allowing me to do some things that otherwise would not be possible, and I want to thank Brian Causse and Stickit1 for the opportunity. They have very high quality products and basically unlimited potential to do whatever we want. Brain is a super cool and efficient guy, and I am just looking forward to working with him and running their very high tech and light weight vinyl skins and decals. Simo Ahoniemi joins Team CRC

Simo Ahoniemi joins Team CRC

Calandra Racing Concepts is happy to report a great new addition to the European race team, Finnish racing star, Simo Ahoniemi. The 2004 European Champ will use the full CRC race package; CRC Gen-XL 1:12th car, Pro Cut tires and Maxxcell Lipo battery pack. This season, Simo will attend the 2011 Euro’s in France as well as competing in the Finnish Nationals and other large events. Good luck to the new CRC Ace pilot. After a few practice sessions,  Simo reports;

I have done my first test with CRC car and first impression is very good. Compared to the past, I have lots of rear traction. In the past, I have to be always very carefully not to steer too much into to corner. With CRC I can go much faster to the corners without loosing rear grip. I am very satisfied about the car performance. I can see lot of potential!

In his very first event running CRC, Simo dominated the first round of the Finnish Nationals with a T.Q. and wins in all 3 A-finals. Taking second at the event was Simo’s good friend and countryman, Teemu Saarinen. They dominated qualifying and the finals with a 1-2 effort over a very talented field. Joining the top 2 in the A-final was another CRC driver, Tony Raikas.

Tanner Denney wins RROC 4wd open class

Tanner Denney wins RROC 4wd open class

JConcepts and Team Associated driver Tanner Denney driving his B44.1 buggy has won the 4wd open class at the prestigious Reedy Race of Champions this past weekend. After 4 rounds of qualifying Denny sat in the 2nd position on the starting grid but was hungry for more. A dual 10 minute A-main format set the stage for exciting main events with A-2 carrying more weight than A-1 putting even more pressure on the leaders. Tanner found himself in the lead in A-main # 1 and fought a difficult race against TQ Josh Numan but eventually finished in the 2nd position. A-main # 2 would be different, Tanner made a small adjustment in driving style and looked noticeably more comfortable as he took the lead from Numan and drove comfortable and fast. With many lap-times in the low 21 second range and dipping into the 20’s on occasion, Denney had a brilliant drive going. Finishing off the final laps in the lead, Denney felt some pressure from Numan who was just 2 seconds behind.  However, Denney would not falter and maintained his lead all the way to the finish line capturing the coveted open title and with it, a ticket to the Invitational class in 2012. Tanner’s B44.1 was decked out with JConcepts Bar Codes in gold compound, Punisher body and 6″ HD rear wing.
