Jilles Groskamp confirmed to race NT1

Jilles Groskamp confirmed to race NT1

Xray have posted a piece on their site confirming that top Team Xray racer Jilles Groskamp will race the NT1 along with his electric duties. His first race will be at the Winternats at the start of February and this statement was probably issued to remove any doubt over what gas cars he will race having done several important races for Serpent last year.

…and additionally will join the team to support and run the new XRAY NT1 in nitro touring car races. Jilles will debut the NT1, together with the rest of Team XRAY, at the upcoming US Winternationals in Florida.

Bastian Hennig wins Stock class at DHI Cup

Bastian Hennig wins Stock class at DHI Cup

With all the attention normally focussed on the Modified category at big races, it sometimes overshadows the great competition that takes place in the other classes. Whilst we focused on Ronald Völkers win at last weekends DHI Cup, it was Bastian Hennig, driving and Xray, that took the stock class win after starting from 2nd place after qualifying. Bastian managed some better results in the A-main to get passed pole man Dennis Fadtke and take the overall class win with Fadtke dropping 1 place back to take 2nd overall, ahead of Lars Hoppe who took the final podium step in 3rd. Bastian was running the Orcan batteries that we featured on our site a few weeks back to take the win.

You can read the full report on the DHI Cup from Xray here.

Robert Pietsch leaves Mugen for Shepherd

Robert Pietsch leaves Mugen for Shepherd

World Championship finalist and all round fast driver Robert Pietsch has left Mugen, a manufacturer he has raced with for many years, to work and race for Shepherd Racing. Shepherd racing took over the old Picco 1/8th scale car project a few years back and the car has only had minimum development since. Pietsch’s position at his new employer will involve designing and developing the car further as well as being its top team driver along with, son of Shepherd owner, Patrick Schäfer. We heard that issues over what engine Robert could run whilst racing last year for Mugen prompted his decision to move.

Ronald Voelker wins the 2007 DHI Cup

2007 DHI Cup Podium - Image by sportsgalleri.dk

Top qualifier, Germany’s Ronald Voelker has won the 2007 running of the DHI Cup in Denmark by taking the win in his first 2 finals leaving the other racers only the runner up spots to fight for. The HotBodies racer lead home former World Champion Marc Rheinard in 2nd driving his Tamiya with current World Champion Andy Moore with another HotBodies Cyclone in 3rd. It seems that this new 5 cell ruling suits Volker and we are sure to see more from him in the future and also note worthy was that Volker won the event with a brushless system and there were 6 brushless systems in the A final.

Ronald Völker claims TQ at DHI Cup

German racer Ronald Voelker has claimed TQ spot for the 2007 DHI Cup held in Denmark. Leading the way from the very start of qualifying the Hot Bodies racer left the competition behind him to get the coveted pole position. Marc Rheinard, driving for Tamiya, took 2nd position in his debut race for Checkpoint while Juho Levanen took 3rd spot driving the Associated TC5 prototype. Joel Myrberg in his debut race for Associated ended his first race with the TC5 in 7th just behind Paul LeMieux, Jilles Groskamp and World Champion Andy Moore. Todays qualifying saw the 3 best runs from 5 count and some racers had problems sticking all 3 runs together such as Carpet World Cup winner Teemu Leino who didnt make the cut along with Associated racer Craig Drescher.
