Italian nitro on-road championships Rd2

The second round of the Italian nitro on-road championships took place at the track of Leno and it was Capricorn driver Giorgio De Lelici who set the fastest time in Friday’s practice. Team mate Francesco followed with the second fastest time. After the 10 minute long qualifying races the time sheets saw Alessio Mazeeo in front of Biagio Sparato and Guiseppe D’Angelo. The A final started dry but the weather forecast announced rain in the second half of the final and with already 36 minutes in the main rain started to pour down meaning drivers had to switch to wet tyres. At the end it was Francesco Tironi (Capricorn/Capricorn who won the Expert class some three laps ahead of his teammate Giorgio De Felici (Capricorn/Novarossi) and Guiseppe D’Angelo. The F1 category went to Stefanizzi (Capricorn/Gimar) and in F2 Bonsignore (Capricorn/Capricorn) was able to take home the win.

Austrian nitro on-road nationals Rd4

The fourth round of the Austrian nitro on-road nationals took place at the MORAC track in Graz, the venue of the 1/10 IC EC-A in 2013. Heavy rain on Saturday meant that only one driver tried tackle the first round of qualifiers and even the Sunday started wet, although under better conditions. As the rain stopped the track became more dry every round and nearly all drivers did their best to qualify as high in the ranking as possible. The third and final round of qualifiers took place under nearly dry conditions but mechanical problems for many of the usual top drivers meant mixed up qualifying results.

Boots wins BRCA National Rd3

Round 3 of the BRCA 1/8th rally cross took place at HNMC with both days full and drivers waiting on the reserve list this class is very strong in the UK. With semis completed it looked like the top four would fight this out, Boots, Cragg, Bloomfield and Martin. This indeed was the case in the final with Boots and Bloomfield pulling away and Martin and Cragg fighting hard. At about 30 minutes left Bloomfield tried to stretch another lap but ran out on track leaving Boots out front with Martin second and Cragg third. The win also meant the 2012 BRCA title for the Kyosho driver.

Bill Likaris wins Greek 200mm nationals Rd2

The second round of the Greek national championship took place at the Arena Race Track. After the four qualification rounds three Shepherd drivers were placed into the A final and three into the B final. In the A final Sidiropoulos and Likaris took second and third place at the grid. After some thrilling 45 minutes the winner of the A final was Bill Likaris some three laps ahead of Sotiropoulos in second place with Christodoulou completing the podium in third place. The win brings Bill Likaris a good position for the 2012 Greek championship with Costas Sidiropoulos currently holding second place.

Long, Kimbrow & Morganti sweep Timezone GP

Last weekend the Timezone Grand Prix was held in Battle Ground, Washington. Held in 1/8th Open and Masters, 1/10th 200mm Sedan and 1/8th GT the race saw a huge attendance with several high and even World class drivers. In qualifying Andrew Wells TQ’d the 1/8th Nitro Masters class with Scott Kimbrow taking the 200mm Sedan top spot and Paolo Morganti excelling in 1/8th GT. In the 1/8th Masters A main Serpent’s Tim Long was able to finish some 9 laps ahead of Dana McKee and Mark Day taking the overall win while in 200mm Sedan Scott Kimbrow battled down Mike Swauger who finished five laps down after the 45 minutes final. The third place on the podium went to Brian Bodine. In 1/8th GT Paolo Morganti finished took home an impressive win 14 Laps ahead of Mike Todd with third placed Mike Lyday was down another two laps.

Daniel Carlsson wins Rd5 of Swedish Cup

Round 5 of the Swedish outdoor series was held at the flat and grippy Trollhattan track. With a round by round system to count Daniel Carlsson set the early pace and set TQ after the 2 first rounds with the second and third position to be decided in the last qualifier with Mattias Johansson taking 2nd and Göran Persson 3rd. The first final was anything but exciting, Daniel made a gap and could easily win by 7 seconds. The second final saw some really nice battles between Daniel and Mattias throughout the race, it ended up with Daniel (Yokomo/LRP/Thunder Power) taking the win by just 6 tenths of a second and wrapping up the overall win. The third final saw Daniel win by 4 seconds, in cooler conditions which suited the Yokomo car perfectly. Mattias Johansson (Xray/LRP/LRP) took 2nd overall with Andreas Johansson (Tamiya/SP/SP) 3rd.

Nick Joosens takes Belgian Nats Rd5 win

For the 5th round of the Belgian Electric Touring Championship they visited the track of the Baanbrekers in Rucphen in the south of Holland. The forecast for the weekend wasn’t looking that good with rain predicted for Saturday and a little better on Sunday. As everyone arrived on the Sunday morning, they were surprised to see sunshine and an almost dry track. In the Efra class qualification it was Nick Joosens who took TQ in front of Olivier Bultynck and Thomas Stockman. It was very close and those three guys running very similar lap times. All the drivers had a good start in the first final. Nick took the lead followed by Olivier and Thomas. For fourth place there was a battle between Geoffrey Vekemans, Rico Claeys, Nick Logie, Patrick Jongenelis and Nicolas Delise. After almost three minutes Ollie’s car had no more traction. The rear right driveshaft was broken. Nick cruised to the win and Thomas took second place with Patrick Jongenelis in third place.

Kyle Branson wins Rd5 of British 1/8th Nats

The fifth round of the 2012 national championship was a second visit to the Adur club, situated at Shoreham recreation ground to the west of Brighton. The original round 5 fixture was scheduled for the Halifax track but due to adverse weather conditions, the track was 1m under water due a local river bursting its banks for the second time within the last 4 years. Therefore with the previous round rescheduled for later on in the season, this race became the 5th meeting. With this race track being the smallest of all in the UK, it was a surprise to see 40 + drivers in attendance based upon previous meetings at this track. The Track is very technical with good rotation and turn in, the main criteria to produce quick and consistent lap times.
