Grainger & Giddins wins Rd2 of BTCC

Round 2 of this year’s BTCC championship was held at the West London Racing Centre track. Having looked at the weather forecast all week it was going to be a wet day, and sure enough when we all turned up at the track, wet it was.  At drivers briefing it was decided that the format for the day would be 4 rounds of round by round qualifying followed by 1 final. With qualifying underway in round 1 it was Tony Broad who set the fastest time followed by Daniel Booker, Damian Giddins, Tim Tims and Spencer Jones in the stock class. In Super touring it was Schumacher’s Chris Grainger setting the fastest time with Olly Jefferies, Alan Bickerstaff, Andy Murray and Stefan Chodzynski rounding out the top five.

Adam Drake triple at JBRL Rd3

Last Saturday saw the 3rd round of the JBRL Nitro Series at Hemet Competition Raceway in Hemet, California. It’s been a while since the JBRL Series visited the track formally known as “The Dirt”. The layout was very technical and got bumpy late in the day. All three mains went really smooth for TLR / Novarossi / Pro-Line driver Adam Drake.  Adam was able to settle into a comfortable pace and win all three mains.

Adrian Bernsten wins Norwegian nationals Rd2

The second round of the Norwegian national series was held at the beautiful facility of LMBK last Saturday and Adrien Bernsten. The track conditions was as always very good and with the high traction and pretty low temperatures (approx. 14-15 degrees), it was all set for some good racing and fast laptimes. After having done a bit of testing on the track before the race and putting in some fast laptimes and very consistent driving I was very confident going into this race.

Neal King wins BRCA 1/8th Rd4

The Fourth round of the BRCA 1/8th on road championship was hosted at one of the premier circuits in the UK, Mendip raceway. With the country hosting the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and having an extended weekend break made traveling down to the track early Saturday morning very time consuming which culminated in missing a couple of hours free practice. Upon arrival we had noticed that the track had been treated with sugar water (Coke) to increase the grip around the braking, mid corners and exits. It was quite visible that this was probably brush applied and did not have any consistent coverage. I fully appreciate this was carried out to provide a constant level of grip but it seemed to make the cars very inconsistent from the lap times and in reality the times were 0.4 seconds slower than the end of last season which was not expected. However with changing weather conditions, the track did seem to dry very quickly between the rain showers which was probably a bonus in the end.

David Bustos wins Spanish 4WD championship

The one and only round of the Spanish 4WD electric buggy nationals was hosted by the Club Automodelismo de Parla some 20 minutes from the centre of Madrid. The two day event started with practice on Saturday and ended with the finals on Sunday. Compared to recent years where the 4WD class struggled to attract the same amount of drivers as 2WD, this year saw a record attendance for the class. In practice one driver stood out from the rest, local hero David Bustos. Sunday was all about sunny skies and high temperatures. Bustos (Tamiya TRF502/Hobbywing) dominated the race at his home track taking three out of five qualifiers and the first two A-finals. Second place went to last year’s 4WD champion Enrique Fuciños (Schumacher CAT SX3/Speed Passion) with Zacarias Villalba (Ansmann X4/Viper R/C) taking the third place on the podium.

Many thanks to Zacarias Villalba for sending the report.
