Toni Gruber takes German National 1/10th 200mm title

The AMC Hamm track hosted the 2019 German 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring Nationals this past weekend. Perfect weather conditions welcomed the drivers on all four days and it was Shepherd’s Thilo Tödtmann who took the overall TQ some 0.3s in front of his teammate Toni Gruber. Serpent’s Tobias Hepp came in 3rd from Shepherd’s Melvin Diekmann 4th. In the opening minutes of the A-main final Thilo and Toni would slightly pull away, but unfortunately Thilo had some problems with his car’s bodyshell right after the first fuel stop and Toni took over the lead. With all his routine the young driver from Plauen was able to control a safe gap over the rest of the field until the chequered flag to take the German National title while behind him, a thrilling battle for the runner-up spot emerged between Melvin Diekmann and Jakub Rozycki. Melvin had decided to change tyres only on the outside while Jakub had more tyres left towards the end of the race as he changed all four. For the last 15 minutes of the race the crowd at the track saw a thrilling battle with several overtaking manoeuvres. It all came down to the last corner; both drivers pushed their vehicles towards the finishing line after the chicane. Jakub went all-in but it was not enough and Melvin kept the upper hand to take the 2nd place from Jakub in 3rd.

Juan Carlos Canas takes Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy title

History was written at last weekend’s round 4 of the Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy Championship when Juan Carlos Canas took the National title by the smallest possible margin, leaving behind 13-times National Champion, Robert Batlle in 2nd overall. Juan Carlos Canas, Robert Batlle and Oscar Baldo would make up the top 3 after the qualifiers at the Antas track, and the 45-minute main final was also a very thrilling affair with Juan Carlos recovering from the end of the field to take the lead from Batlle in the closing stages – the latter suffering a mechanical soon after the pass when his car’s front suspension collapsed. This allowed Juan Carlos to cruise to the win and with it the overall championship, taking the title from 13-times consecutive National Champion, Robert Batlle.

Bezerk Pro10 Winter Series Rd3 – Report

The third and final round of the Bezerk RC Pro10 Winter Series was held at England Park Raceway last weekend. The full long track layout was again used so all the drivers could enjoy the fast flowing nature of the track. Unfortunately one of the favorites for the round win, Clayton Hughes, came to an early finish when he struck a marshall at full speed in the foot knocking him to the ground. Fortunately the marshall wasn’t injured but the car was too badly damaged to repair on the night. After three rounds of qualifying TQ went to Shannon Overson (Litesabre) with Luke Sinanian (Xray) 2nd and Scott Tapsall (Xray) 3rd. The first two finals were won by Shannon after some very close racing with Luke. In the third final Luke turned the table and ceased on a mistake from Shannon and went on to take a well earned win. The final finishing positions ended up the same as the qualifying order with Shannon getting the win over Luke 2nd and Scott 3rd with Jason Wicks and Richard Chun rounding out the top 5. The drivers are now moving onto what should be an awesome three rounds in the upcoming 73RC Summer Series.

Thanks to Shannon Overson for the report.
