Juan Carlos Canas takes Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy title

History was written at last weekend’s round 4 of the Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy Championship when Juan Carlos Canas took the National title by the smallest possible margin, leaving behind 13-times National Champion, Robert Batlle in 2nd overall. Juan Carlos Canas, Robert Batlle and Oscar Baldo would make up the top 3 after the qualifiers at the Antas track, and the 45-minute main final was also a very thrilling affair with Juan Carlos recovering from the end of the field to take the lead from Batlle in the closing stages – the latter suffering a mechanical soon after the pass when his car’s front suspension collapsed. This allowed Juan Carlos to cruise to the win and with it the overall championship, taking the title from 13-times consecutive National Champion, Robert Batlle.

Bezerk Pro10 Winter Series Rd3 – Report

The third and final round of the Bezerk RC Pro10 Winter Series was held at England Park Raceway last weekend. The full long track layout was again used so all the drivers could enjoy the fast flowing nature of the track. Unfortunately one of the favorites for the round win, Clayton Hughes, came to an early finish when he struck a marshall at full speed in the foot knocking him to the ground. Fortunately the marshall wasn’t injured but the car was too badly damaged to repair on the night. After three rounds of qualifying TQ went to Shannon Overson (Litesabre) with Luke Sinanian (Xray) 2nd and Scott Tapsall (Xray) 3rd. The first two finals were won by Shannon after some very close racing with Luke. In the third final Luke turned the table and ceased on a mistake from Shannon and went on to take a well earned win. The final finishing positions ended up the same as the qualifying order with Shannon getting the win over Luke 2nd and Scott 3rd with Jason Wicks and Richard Chun rounding out the top 5. The drivers are now moving onto what should be an awesome three rounds in the upcoming 73RC Summer Series.

Thanks to Shannon Overson for the report.

Belgian Electric On-road Nationals finale – Report

The Racing Club Roeselare played host for the final round of the Belgian Electric On-road nationals last weekend. The RCR track recently opened their new track and it is considered to be one of the best facilities in Europe. The flowing high speed track with technical parts was highly welcomed by all the racers who attended the season finale. In order to prepare the 2020 season, two new demo classes, 13.5 blinky Touring and 17.5 blinky FWD, were added to the normal classes of 17.5 Fun, 13.5 ETS, Modified and Formula. Thanks to these classes – and a great raffle – there was a record entry of 45 drivers. Due to the illness of his mechanic, newly crowned Belgian champion Florian Joos decided not to take part in this race and Olivier Bultynck, the current 1/10 European 13.5 champion, decided to give the new 13.5 class a go. So everyone expected Mitchell van Ess to dominate the Modified class, but while his pace on Saturday was blistering, Sunday went horribly wrong for the young Dutchman. In qualifying, Mitchell had two DNFs. Young ARC driver Liam Van de Wouwer had the fastest single lap time, but it was multi Belgian champion Steve Lambrechts running an Xray who took the TQ in front of Liam, Dimitri De Baeker (Xray) and Mitchell.
