Shanghai’s N8 Club – Race Report

This past weekend, the N8 Nitro Racing Club in Shanghai saw 20 drivers come out to compete. N8 is promoting nitro on road racing in China and getting great support from manufacturers all over the world such as Matrix Tires, VP Fuel and Sunpadow Batteries. With a growing interest for nitro racing in Shanghai, N8 has become the premier Nitro RC racing Club in China. Club qualifying and race format promotes interaction and participation between members. Qualifying is an hour long where drivers decide when to set their 3 consecutive fast laps to determine final heats. 2 car bump ups in each mains give drivers a chance to make the A-Main, all mains are 30 minutes. You don’t need to bring your own pitman because mechanics are assigned thru lottery where different members get to teams up with other members every month. The club meets every 6-8 weeks.

Hansen & Stub-Holm take Danish National titles

Last weekend the final round of the Danish Nitro On-road Championship was held at the high speed track of Næstved model Racing club. In the 1/8th class it was Martin N.O Hansen who set the pace, and claimed the TQ spot by winning three qualifying rounds. Henrik Christensen lined up in 2nd and Bo Nielsen had to settle for the 3rd spot after the qualifiers. Going into the 30-minute final Martin N.O looked to be under pressure from Henrik and Bo, as they had set a high pace and were pushing Martin until some traffic that went wrong and left Bo in the grass with a damaged rear tyre, Henrik was still on the same lap as Martin, but was unlucky when he was lapping a slower car, as he ran a little too wide which sent him airborne and damaged his car and body. This allowed Martin N.O Hansen (ARC/Novarossi/Contact) to take the win five laps in front of Henrik Christensen (Shepherd/Novarossi/Contact) in 2nd and Bo Nielsen (Infinity/Kabuto/Ulti) 3rd. That is how they also finished in the championship.

Tessmann & Rivkin win at 2018 Surf City Classic

The world famous OCRC in Huntington Beach, CA was the location for the Proline Surf City Classic this past weekend and with Xray driver Ty Tessmann in attendance, he sent us this report. ‘Once again they outdid themselves with another awesome, challenging layout and a smoothly run race. The track is very well prepped and maintained and the whole facility is top notch. It is a well known fact that after a new layout is put in, the track starts out low bite but will continue to increase in grip throughout the weekend, so to be fast your car setup has to be changing constantly to keep up with the changing condition. Tire prep is also a big factor at this race, to adjust for the changing grip level. All this combined, makes for a very challenging and competitive race. As usual all the top drivers from the US were at this race and with one of Europe’s shining stars added into the mix made for a very competitive field.

2018 Protoform Cup – Report

The 2nd annual Protoform Cup ran this weekend at beautiful Steel City R/C Speedway in Fontana, California. A great field of drivers from Southern and Northern California, Arizona, Texas, and Nevada tackled a special layout designed specifically for electric cars across 6 classes: Mod & Stock Touring, USGT, F1, PRO-10 and a new addition to the American on-road scene, 1:8 Electric. Practice Friday was followed by 3 rounds of qual points Saturday and Triple Finals for all racers on Sunday. A couple unique aspects of this race were handout fixed-timing motors for the three spec classes, provided by Reedy, and a strict limit on how the Solaris spec tires were used, to eliminate all “tire games” and force all drivers to drive hard every round on the track. The weather was unseasonably cool with high’s in the low-mid 80s F (27 C) for the event, which was definitely welcomed by racers.

Bayer & Bidovsky take Rd4 in the Czech Republic

The 4th round of 1/8 Czech Nationals took place last weekend in Skripov. The track is known for its bumpy, technical layout with some unique features (and it always rains there). This year Nationals weren’t any exception and Friday open practice was very soon cut short because of rain. On Saturday morning racers arrived to a flooded track and everybody thought the race was done, but the organisers decided we shall carry on.

BRCA Clubman’s Championship Rd6 – Report

Last weekend saw the BRCA Clubman’s Championship headed to the Midlands for Round 6 at Stafford RCMCC. Not the biggest of tracks on the Racing calendar but a real favourite of the Clubman’s racers as it’s quite challenging and when you get it right you are greatly rewarded. There was a near full entry for race day and there were also 60 plus drivers practicing on Saturday, this shows that this series is so popular as we only had two rounds of the championship remaining. For practice day we had seven timed runs for all classes in heat order, so plenty of opportunity to adjust to track conditions. The usual three classes were running, 17.5 Blinky, 13.5 Open and Formula One.
