Sergi Franch teams up with Mugen Seiki

Former KM Racing driver, Spain’s Sergi Franch has made the switch to Mugen Seiki for the 2016 season. Sergi will be supported by Modelix Racing and his campaign includes the Spanish National Championship, the World Championships in Gubbio, Italy as well as selected national and international events. Sergi has to say the following about the deal:

I’m very proud to join team Mugen for 2016 season and I would like to thank Modelix Racing for this opportunity. Mugen is a great brand with high quality materials so I’m sure that we’ll be on the top level of performance on the track and hope to achieve the best possible results.

Czech National On-road Championships – Report

The 2016 Czech National On-road Championships were held this past weekend in Prague. In the premier class of Touring Modified the battle was on between last year’s champion Kuba Simurda (Xray), who ultimately took the TQ, Jiri Vysin (Xray), Petr Grof (VBC Racing) and Michal Blahovsky (Serpent). In the finals Simurda and Vysin offered a huge show while battling for the overall win but with victories in A1 and A2 Vysin would come out successful to grab the overall title with one leg to spare. Simurda had to settle for second while Grof rounded out the top 3.

Olly Jefferies & James Hart win at BTCC opener

Olly Jefferies & James Hart win at BTCC opener

Round one of the 2016 Schumacher BTCC took place at the fantastic Cotswold track. Over the Winter the club have done a great job giving the facility and update with fresh paint and TVs in the pits for live timing. Many drivers were using the unofficial warm up as testing for the national which will be held in two weeks’ time. In the Modified class, Olly Jefferies took fastest time in all four qualifying rounds and went on to take the win in the single leg A-final.

Agustin Cutini doubles at Argentinian Nationals Rd1

The opening round of the Argentinian Buggy and Truggy National Championship was held at the Colonia Caroya track in Cordoba. In the Pro Buggy class Agustin Cutini would take the TQ and win from Nicolas Bregante and Sebastián Recio in second and third respectively. The three would also make up the Pro Truggy podium with Agustin taking the TQ and win from Nicolas and Sebastián.

Cole Ogden wins Speed RC opening race

Speed RC Raceway, the all-new facility of TJ Bell and former Formula 1 and now Global RallyCross driver, Scott Speed held its opening race this past weekend in Mooresville, North Carolina. The TQ in the 1/8th Nitro Buggy class went to Kyosho’s Jared Tebo with Mugen’s Cole Ogden qualifying for the 2 spot. At the tone Tebo jumped into the lead while Ogden dropped back to 5th. Later Cole would be able to catch up and to take the lead and after a couple of swaps up front due to wrecking, Cole would take the win with Jared in second. Tekno RC’s Barry Pettit completed the top 3 result.

Hartson & Root win at JBRL Electric Series Rd2

The second round of the 2016 JBRL Electric Series was held at SDRC Raceway in San Diego, California this past Saturday. Once again the race attracted a good mixture of local talent and internationally experienced racers and in the 2WD Open Buggy class it was 2013 IFMAR 4WD Buggy World Champion, Steven Hartson who took the overall win from Brent Thielke in second and Casey Becica in third.

Winter Jumps 2016 finale – Report

The final round of the Winter Jumps series was held this past weekend in Helsinki during the Model Expo hobby show. The track was laid out using “EOS carpet” and lots of jumps, making for a fun weekend of racing. The event started with controlled practice of the 2WD class followed by three rounds of qualifying of which the best one would count. Joel Valander would come out fastest from Jörg Tiit and Joona Haatanen. In the opening A-main Joel would take a comfortable win but Joona stroke back in A2, shifting the decision for the overall win to the third and final A-main that Jörg would lead in the early stages. Joel got a very unlucky mechanical failure that allowed Joona to take the win and with it the overall victory. Joel ended the day on the runner-up spot from third placed Markku Honkanen.

Rick Hohwart wins Touring Mod class at CTS Rd3

Round three of the California Touring Series was held at the famous Speedworld Raceway in Roseville, California. The round’s winner for Modified Touring class is Team Associated’s veteran racer Rick Hohwart. With his first win followed by two runner-up finishes, he secured the points chase and continues to lead the series. In Q1, Hohwart made a mistake that cost him TQ over Brandon Clements (Awesomatix) a local favourite, and he would then qualify behind Clements coming on to the main. In the main Hohwart trailed Clements at about the 2 minute mark as Clements went wide and Hohwart made a clean pass for the lead. With a huge bobble by Clements, Team Yokomo driver Eric Albano would then secure 2nd followed by Brandon. The top three finishers now have one win a piece for the series.  The next race will be held June 19th at P1 Hobbies in Ukiah.
