Olivier Bultnyck takes Rd6 in Belgium

The host for the 6th round of the Belgian nationals was the club of Genk, MRG. Located next to the famous karting circuit and hoping that the weather would be good, the Efra drivers ran there qualifications under varying conditions. Olivier Bultynck, for the sixth time champion, placed his VBC on pole position, in front of Nick Joosens and Nicolas Delisé. In the first final it was Olivier who slid his car in the second corner and lost the lead. Nick went away followed by Rico Claeys and Olivier. Olivier had to fight back and overtook Rico with a nice move. Meanwhile Nick was in the lead with a gap of more than 2 seconds. But Olivier was fast and in the last lap he was on Nick’s tale. Nick kept his coolness and took victory in front of Olivier and Rico.

Honigl & Kreil takes wins at Austrian Nats Rd3

AustrianRd3-1

The 3rd round of the Austrian Nationals were held on the high-speed full concrete track of the ERT Steyregg. Only because of the unique surface were racers able to practise on Saturday even if it was raining most of the day. On Sunday the weather was a lot better and the track was dry the whole day. Hupo Honigl took the TQ spot in 2wd ahead of Peter Pinisch with Team C team mate Martin Kreil in 3rd. 4wd qualifying was even better for Team C with Hupo taking the TQ with Martin in 2nd and Marcus Prihoda in 3rd. The mains had some good battles and in the end Hupo would win 2wd in front of Martin and in the reverse order for 4wd. With this result Honigl was able to secure the overall National Championship in both classes with one race to spare.

Levin & Ronnefalk take Swedish EP Offroad titles

Levin & Ronnefalk win titles at Swedish EP Offroad Nats

The Swedish 1/10th offroad Nationals were held at MHC Skarpnacks near Stockholm on their high grip astro turf surfaced track. In the 2wd class on Saturday it was Kyosho star David Ronnefalk, fresh from his Euros win in Germany the previous week, that took the top spot in qualifying head of Team C’s Oskar Levin in 2nd. Oskar took the win in leg 1 ahead of Niclas Mansson (Associated) and Ronnefalk, while in leg 2 it was a bad run for Levin taking 4th with Ronnefalk with the win and again Mansson in 2nd. This setup a showdown for A3 which Oskar won to take the overall win and Swedish title. Mansson was again 2nd with UK driver Simon Moss (Schumacher) 3rd. The result gave Ronnefalk the runner up position with Mansson taking 3rd. In 4wd David Ronnefalk would take the top spot in qualifying again ahead of Levin 2nd. David would this time convert his grid spot into the win, wrapping up the overall win and title with victory in the first two mains leaving Oskar to win the 3rd main and take the runner up spot with Mansson again taking 3rd overall.

Jörn Neumann double at German Nationals

The German 1/10 Off-Road National Championships were held last weekend in Duisburg and despite the wet conditions that plagued buggy practice and the qualifying rounds during the first day of the two day competition, Jörn Neumann was able to take TQ in both the 4wd buggy and 4wd SC classes. On the Grapevine – Sand am Main

On the Grapevine – Sand am Main

Exactly one year ago I sat down with some enthusiasm to write this column because I had just returned from reporting on David Ronnefalk winning his first European Championship title. The reason writing about his success in my column came easier than normal was I could relate more easily to his achievement because we were both kind of the new kids on the block at the same time and I had witnessed everyone of his 1:8 European A Championship campaigns. The first Euros I reported on was a dusty Crete in 2008 while his was Austria one year later, the same year he won the European B Championships in Switzerland, and over that time we have developed a good working relationship so seeing him take the biggest win of his career felt that bit more special. Over the last 12-months I have got to work a lot more with David due to him representing Kyosho in the Euro Offroad Series and interacting with him at the European Championships in Germany last week it was compelling to see how the 18-year-old took his title defence in his stride. His form from the get-go was impressive but how he dealt with it was for me even more so.

Drew Moller double at Mugen Seiki GP series Rd2

Drew Moller double at Mugen Seiki GP series Rd2

This past weekend saw round two of the Mugen Seiki Grand Prix series held at Heritage R/C Park. It was a pretty laid back weekend with a total of 60 entries. Both classes, buggy and truggy, saw Mugen racer Drew Moller take the TQ spot. In Buggy Drew had a good early battle with fellow Mugen racer Carson Wernimont but after some motor issues for Carson he was able to edge his team mate out for the win. In the Truggy Main it was an easy victory for Moller, after getting the holeshot he never looked back.
